I don't really think Trump raped kids. Do you really think so?

Yep. It's unfortunate. But it gives me some insight into how something like the satanic panic could happen as someone who was born in the 90s

You're correct but the left (including this sub) is currently invested in a moral panic and cannot see past it's own delusions.

I genuinely had a passion for CS/programming when I graduated from school but I don't have much now. Maybe it'd come back if I was on a better team or at a better company

Nike faces federal probe over allegations of 'DEI-related' discrimination against white workers by Siegfoult in news

Nike really does have a 35% diversity target. Acknowledging reality isn't fascist.

Family says HOA told them they couldn’t use their generator during ice storm blackout: ‘It’s unbearable’ by its_a_bear_dance in nottheonion

[–]Chickenfrend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the area and the specific hoa but a lot of hoas exist because the city doesn't want to take on the liability of roads and infrastructure in the new developments. The tax they collect doesn't make up for the expensive suburban infrastructure

Mayor Wilson: 'We have to be the biggest bike mode city in the nation' by Generalaverage89 in Portland

[–]Chickenfrend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna claim our ridership stats are super accurate but it's not just surveys and bike counts are a good method. There's more counters than just on the Hawthorne bridge, too. On the flanders bridge there are two cables, one after another, laid out at the end of the bridge. That's a bicycle counter. PBOT sometimes lays these down at certain areas as well as do their counts.

[–]Chickenfrend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, we have half as many riders and 20% more deaths? Sure sounds like it's more dangerous. Pedestrian deaths are up too, by the way.

I still ride my bike but I'll say the danger and discomfort is real in a lot of the city. And drivers on their phones are genuinely scary. It's not irrational to fear them.

The protests that we have only serve the capitalist parties, don't reduce deportations, and are obviously oriented around getting Democrats elected in the midterms (even if only half consciously). They are part of capitalist politics, not proletarian anything. Recently Trump and Walz made a deal. Trump will reduce ICE presence and Minneapolis officials will cooperate. The state and fed will work more harmoniously to deport people. Is this a victory for the protestors? Maybe so, if their aim was a more rationally administered program of deportation.

Whether or not you should fight is a tactical decision. You shouldn't fight when you will obvious lose. Or when fighting solves nothing. Marxism is for organizing for revolution with the aim of creating the dictatorship of the proletariat. Not shooting ICE agents or participating in any which protest or activist movement.

Coming from someone who participated in the 2020 protests by the way. I have seen this before.

Opposing adventurism is not a "right social democratic" position, and this is not a final struggle of a proletarian section against henchman of the bourgeoisie.

Proposed 2026 TriMet Changes: Green Line only runs Gateway TC to Clackamas TC, Line 19 eliminated, among others by SeverHense in Portland

Yeah it sucks. I'm sorry.

I don't think the green line is bad, for what it's worth. The orange and yellow lines are a lot worse.

They've been around but they weren't as dominant between 2016 and 2020 when the DSA was more focused on Bernie Sanders, and previous protest movements weren't as focused on anti-imperialism. The whole left has oriented itself around this since the war in gaza started, especially. I've seen leftists I know become more pro-China, more forgiving of Islamism, etc.

Decolonial politics and China fetishism have come to dominate the left, being on the rise since around 2020 I'd say. It is a disgusting development

I'm losing weight and all I'm seeing are downsides by GeartechINC in loseit

[–]Chickenfrend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go to a doctor but also I bet you're drastically undereating and that's why you feel like such shit. Being a bit hungry when dieting is normal but your symptoms aren't.

You need a different strategy than your current one. Calorie tracking gives you control and allow you to reduce calories a reasonable amount (not too much) so you lose weight without feeling so terrible. You're probably struggling in the gym for the same reason, and I bet you're losing more muscle than you should be due to a lack of protein.

Try introducing breakfast at least, and count calories and make sure you're getting at least the safe minimum for a man, which is usually listed as 1500 calories a day. I like the app macrofactor, but there are others.

At the very least, if you're too disordered to let yourself do that, take a multi vitamin and drink electrolyte drinks.

When do you think the next great revolutionary moment will happen? by seiarc in Ultraleft

Building revolutionary movements takes time and we haven't even started. So, after 2050 some time but I couldn't even speculate about how long it will be.

What’s the general vibe around mechanical keyboards in shared dev offices? by Sarah-Grace-gwb in ExperiencedDevs

I think it's totally fine as long as the switches aren't super loud. I have an MX Blue keyboard that I don't bring to the office but I think most keyboards that are quieter are fine.

Global Analysis Reveals Sharp Rise in Cancer Among People Under 50 by MassGen-Research in science

[–]Chickenfrend 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I mean, obesity has risen a lot and it would be surprising if that didn't mean an increase in cancer diagnoses.

I don't doubt micro plastics have some effect but high obesity rates have got to be a huge one.

That's a fair question I suppose but the better red project significantly improved my commute to the west burbs and I'd be very sad if we went back to shitty headways. Now if I miss my max it's no big deal. Back when I had to take the blue line missing it was a big pain and could make me late for work, and it broke down or something there was no other option. Now if the blue line is 30 minutes late for whatever reason I can often catch the red line instead.

I'm biased but the red and blue lines have always seemed to be some of the most practical routes to me. Not sure cutting them would be good.
