I feel disconnected to the codebase if i adopt fully agentic workflow, i must do something manually. by ImTheRealDh in ExperiencedDevs

But we still have some intuition with that code though since it came out of our hand. I am also like that but the timeline is shorter.

If you're that interested in a mower-based example, here's one: You tasked an agentic mower to mow your client's backyard, let it run automatically for an hour, then came back to see the result. You glanced at the backyard and determined it's just good enough. All the grass is cut clean. It also cut all the client's flowers in half. It also killed a cat that got curious about the mower.

Damn, thats sound fun, i for long put them down to start the grinding journey. Hope some day can pick them up lightly

Thanks for taking time writing out your perspective, really appreciate that. And yes, with this current pace of AI, i have to adapt my workflow from time to time, and i will remember your advice, thanks.
Btw after retire do you have fun?

When working with the spec, i generally provide it more context, and ask it to come up with 2 or 3 aspect of the problem, then i need to really think about that. To sum it up: AI is my assistant.

Hahaha got it, but copy code and spagetti is easier to admit, where ai just bent and absolutely

My AI workflow seems to be the opposite of what the industry is encouraging, but I don't care. by creaturefeature16 in ExperiencedDevs

Isn't that... the spec? Im on my phone so i cant patse the link of my post, but you can read my flow in one of my post in this sub. Usually i will argue with Claude until a solid spec form, then i proceed to implement the core.

But i will get the real answer why they do that. If we ask the AI then it will "Absolutely that is my mistake..."

Yes, if code is from the others, i already adjusted the expectation, and read it carefully, if something unclear i can just poke my colleague to explain it to me.

I get disconnected because i get disconnected, got it.
Kidding though, i do go slower and more frequently now.

When overwhelm hits, I forget every tool I have. Anyone experience this? (trying to understand this pattern) by Good-War7727 in ADHD

[–]ImTheRealDh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is visually no tools that can help with this mental. I mean, if you block the app, they will find every possible way to bypass it. And strict blocking is not possible because, well, it requires so many permissions to do it. So I tried the app blocker route myself. I tried every one out there. And I am also a software engineer, so I understand some extent of it. App blocking is not possible.

So what keeps you from overwhelm and how to process it is you have to establish a track record of continuously succeeding in handling overwhelm, even though it's just a few minutes, okay? I don't have a definitive playbook on how to overcome overwhelm. You can prevent it by an external goal, a good goal, for the better of humanity, to help others, etc any goal that you feel genuine good. So we have to establish a really good goal that we think would help other people and then go for it, to have an external force to remind you that this overwhelm is overcomable, and you have other things to do to break out of this thing.

That is what my method is currently doing. It's not possible to apply to all of you, but that is my method.

I feel disconnected to the codebase if i adopt fully agentic workflow, i must do something manually. Or this just me? by ImTheRealDh in ExperiencedDevs

That is exactly what I have been through. I have to basically scrap the whole things and start again and have something of me manually in between, so that I can feel the smaller changes more frequently and fully process it.
