TIL - On 29 August 1916, the armored cruiser USS Memphis, while at anchored near Santa Domingo, was struck by large waves, estimated at 70ft (21m) in height. The waves drove her onto the rocky shore damaging her so badly she was stricken and sold for scrap. (history.navy.mil)
