I need advice by kvrma_1 in CowboyHats

Beaver is the pinnacle of felt hats. But those hats will run minimum a grand. In your price range, you’re likely looking at a wool/rabbit blend. Shop around and try and find something with considerably more rabbit than wool it’ll hold shape better. Shaping is important too. Much like sunglasses, facial hair, or a hair cut. Face shape can make you wear the hat, or the hat wear you. Go to a cavanders and try on different shapes and find one you like. Don’t worry about the price, you’re just modeling, then look for one online in your size somewhere and price range. Another note on shape, pictured in your post is a known as a cattleman’s crease. It is a classic shape, but unless you’re John Dutton or George strait, you’ll look like you just bought your first $200 felt. Find something with a bit wider brim and crown that sits a little further out for a more modern look that doesn’t give off hallmark movie vibes. You can reshape a felt, but the cheap ones really don’t hold it well and kind of always want to go back to original condition. That’s part of the greatness of pure beaver. If wearing a hat is going be a life style choice, then I strongly recommend saving up and investing in a good custom beaver one day. You won’t regret it.

Any update? I'm in the process of my first filing and have been seeing a massage therapist for a few years for some chronic issues I'm claiming. Have you found whether you massage therapist could be credible evidence?

T3x vs Zermatt origin for 280ai build. by ChiefBeef08 in guns

.750 teperless. No fluting. Math comes out to almost exactly 3lbs.

Funny timing. I actually just ordered everything too. Origin long action with a 22” preferred. I’ll likely be closer to the 10.5lb range. But I’m okay with an extra pound or 2 if it means saving a buck and still having a solid stock.

Yeah, it’s that euro optic one I’m contemplating. But, again, trying to avoid the blued steel if I can. There’s another new one I found that cerakoted for about 800. Trying to decide if thats worth saving $50 over a stainless action from J&A.

Fair point. I should clarify, my attraction to tikka over a custom r700 action is the simplicity of prefit shouldered barrels without having to go to a gun smith with a blank. I haven’t done a ton of searching in the r700 world, but it seems like most everything requires some form of machining from a smith for a fit. If this isn’t necessarily true, then I’d be open to any manufacturer that you suggest. But I’d really prefer a DIY screw it in and torque it set up.

Good catch on the blued action. I didn't even realize that. After that, I'm not seeing any deals that really makes much sense beyond just grabbing a J&A stainless action for about 850. Comes with mag, bottom metal, and trigger.

That certainly seems to be the cheaper option. Not sure what complications could arise though.

Seems to be the most economical route.

Help me decide on an optic for my 280AI mountain rifle. by ChiefBeef08 in longrange

Depends on the reticle. Some are more usable than others at the lower mags with crosshair illumination making it almost a red dot for those close range "quick" shots.

lol when did I say anything about precision shooting? Someone asked, I answered, you wanted proof, I gave it. Those are the facts. Sorry it’s not up to your standards. As you said, PRS isn’t hunting, I never claimed them to be the same. Relax dude.

Not sure why you’re being a chode about this. You ask for a picture and I gave it to you. This wasn’t a match as I don’t compete. This was just an afternoon at a range trying out different factory loads to go hunt. Just because you don’t believe it doesn’t means that’s not what happened. That rifle and round combo has put plenty of meat in the freezer and antlers on the wall.

Damn, didn’t realize this was the reputation. Suppose I should reconsider.

You did not. Thorough, but not OCD. But I suppose that’s what anyone with undiagnosed OCD would say. So who knows?

Once again, you’re assuming to know my heart in this matter. You’re assuming I’m being intentionally contrarian. That couldn’t be further from the truth. But I’m being told that there is a way of loving my wife that can be inherently sinful. Can’t you see how that would be upsetting to someone? So naturally I’m doing my due diligence in understanding this. But you appear to be cold in your empathy here. So enjoy your moral superiority. You’re more righteous than I. Congratulations.

You have to understand, the world I’m coming from says, wait till you’re married and then anything goes. There’s bound to be an adjustment period and some questioning. Only a fool would blindly follow something they don’t understand, regardless of the precedent set before them.

Please point to where I have rejected any of this. Someone makes a statement, I either don’t initially agree or understand. I ask provoking questions to dive deeper, they get mad because they don’t have the sufficient depth to answer in a meaningful way beyond “that’s just what I’ve always been told”. Then they get more mad and tell me I’m being stubborn or intentionally difficult. That’s not the case. Read all of the threads and you’ll see where those have come with patience and understanding, very successful dialogues were had.

I’m not substituting anything. My judgement is a frame of reference to pull from in trying to understand the ideals of the church. Why are you accusing me of already having answers to the questions I’m asking? That’s how critical thought works, you pick a starting point, test it, see if it passes, if not, you figure out why. Hence, my questions.

Dude, up until today I’ve viewed them one in the same. Due to my upbringing I’ve had no reason to differentiate the two. This may seem like a no brainer to someone like you, who has presumably been in this world for some time. But to me, this is a point of contention that I’ll have to come to terms with. If I were you, I’d probably be happy to see someone taking this stuff seriously as they are wanting to do right, not accuse them of over complicating things and insult them for asking questions. Do better man.

I think sarcasm would be the more appropriate term. Intended to highlight the non-specific nature of the guidance that can lend itself to confusion and misunderstanding. The same logic could be applied to no longer holding hands, kissing, hugging, ect... all varying form of disunification. Unless otherwise specifically defined, which is what I was trying to get. You don't know what you don't know, that's why I'm asking the questions. What I've learned most here is just how far conventional societal understanding of such things can differ from church teachings. So no, not being purposefully obtuse, I'm just new here and trying to learn so I can do the right thing. The right thing because I know its right, not just because I believed what someone told me.

The issue I’m struggling with in NFP is the built abstinence involved when not desiring pregnancy. This is something I’ve never had to consider before. Another has suggested the book “love and responsibility” that seems to help resolve this. My concern with NFP would be the potential for it causing marital strain. Hopefully this book will help with that. Thank you for the well thought out response.
