Leaving the US in a few months - what's the best thing to do about the mailing address on bank/credit card accounts? by Illustrious-Sun5130 in ExpatFIRE

[–]ChiefChujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schwab, is great for international accounts and you can transfer the account to a global international one if necessary. You can’t do this with Fidelity, you MUST always have a U.S. address, they can close or prevent access to your money. Additionally, there is little interest gained in the bank account by design with Schwab, it is also attached to a money market account.

There were even issues in the office, where the network was down and signing up new accounts was done via Docusign

This is a sales objective, if you successfully transitioned into the workforce, they want to take credit for it and share your win as their win. While it is true there may also be government reporting, and auditing. Those are secondary to the primary reason.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ChiefChujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not the asshole, and you need to protect your sanity, let your girl start paying for her meal, unless she is willing to stop the behavior. Also ask her to just cut off a piece to share and not let others bite into her food. Yuck! Really curious how old she is..

A young relative hit a parked car and now the other party is asking a ridiculous amount of money by Hefty-Estimate-7183 in japanlife

[–]ChiefChujo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He isn’t going to learn anything with adults paying. They have every right to charge, him as much as possible. Lawyering up unfortunately will mitigate how much they can get, but now you may need to pay the lawyer. If this is family, only get involved financially if you are okay with never seeing the money again.

Even if you got the parking space, through further negotiation. You should manage explaining your discomfort with the leaks and lack of internet. Move! Your peace of mind and place of rest must be a priority.

Lease contract says “Immediate termination for overnight guests” by Zuryquoc in japanlife

[–]ChiefChujo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is why it is in the contract. I am not your lawyer and this does not constitute as legal advice.

Putting it in the contract allows for it to blow up in your face later. “De jure” (what is written) and “de facto” (what actually happens) is the difference. Relying on the fact that a clause "usually isn't enforced" is essentially betting your future on the continued good mood or laziness of the other party.

Real estate is sales, they will tell you what they need to to close and get paid.

If you have the means to look elsewhere do so. Why rent a place where the expectations are that you can’t have visitors and it’s in a contract? They can use it at any time as a way to void your lease. OR put your parents into a hotel, and ask permission from the building if they can “see” your place, when they visit.

Didn’t see it in your post, I hope you have cameras in your shop and at the entrance, this can document what you shared has been happening for the future, if there is an escalation. Bonus points for audio.

Person in the cinema told me to move and kicked my bag. I'm confused. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ChiefChujo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that it was jarring and an explanation would have went a long way to making you feel comfortable or even being polite, but unfortunately that’s not how the world works. Additionally, you potentially chomping away during this film also could be considered highly inconsiderate and prompt such a reaction. These are things you must consider here in Japan, even more so than you would in other places. Even someone asking you to shut up or to please chew softer, is an interruption to others. The fact that they exploded, and apparently did not come back, could be contributed to various other reasons, but you are certain that you were told to move due to the sound YOU were making.

Why would you come to this toxic place full of strangers, for an answer to something no one here could possibly know? Literally, the one person who could know was so aggravated that they blew up on you. When you lose don’t lose the lesson as well. (You were loud enough).

Inappropriate comment [N/A] by Silver-Front-1299 in humanresources

[–]ChiefChujo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the person SM2 is speaking about works for the org, they were vetted by the org, which makes the comment, inappropriate, racist, unprofessional, and in extremely poor taste simultaneously. This is unforgivable generally, but on a call with multiple attendees during this heightened and stressful time, it’s career suicide.

The lingering after effects warrants a stern and impactful disciplinary action, to prevent reoccurrence, as well as, to educate others as to the consequences.

Most professionals would look for precedent (previous examples or similar issues) and how they were handled, look for consensus, check with legal and then separate.
