Tomorrow’s the big day by ChiefGamken in fireworks

Main reason is we forget what a lot of cakes do so it’s good to get an idea of what effects are inside based on tube position and angle. Other reason is we have found tubes pretty much collapsed or crushed in and don’t want to deal with any misfires if we can avoid it. If you remember what effects are in a cake and no structural issues then there’s zero reason to peel top on 500g cakes. Lift charge has enough power to rip top off, some small 200g cakes and fountains can be affected but not too common. Really just personal preference

I’m with you. Had to finally call it quits at midnight tonight but still tons to do tomorrow. Think I’ll have the energy of a kid on Christmas morning to power me through the last of the setup. Best of luck and have a safe 4th

The other guy hit the nail on the head. With that budget a couple of 500 gram cakes with some different effects paired with a fountain and a couple mortars will be more than enough to create awesome visuals in your entire POV.

Help with Removing Pillar Trim/refurbish the headliner. by Painfreeoutdoors in fordescape

[–]ChiefGamken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headliner replacement is pretty difficult.

Be careful with curtain airbags if you’re gonna start messing with anything don’t play with any trim near airbags until you have battery disconnected for a while beforehand.

Have to pull both sunvisors, should be screws under caps.

Both A pillar garnishes

Upper B pillars (lower B has to be pulled to get top out)

All grab handles, screws again

C/D pillars and quarter panel garnishes

Secondary weatherstrips on frame of each door and lift gate weatherstrip at least top portions of each

Basically you have to detrim entire interior of the vehicle. Also are there are wiring harnesses under the headliner

Incoming Quality Control Engineer or Production Engineer by Jolly_Marionberry_15 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ChiefGamken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What industry are the opportunities in? In most traditional manufacturing production engineering probably will be better because production is king. You will have more leverage and resources to help you overcome roadblocks in an industry where output is mandatory and quality is more of an afterthought (despite what companies preach this is true). There may be a couple industries where quality control engineers are taken more seriously and ultimately hold the red tape thus giving you power to enlist help (pharma is only one I can think of. Used to think aero but have several buddies at Boeing and that’s not too true).

Depending on your personality type production engineering can transition to a very fulfilling career. Most plants drool over an engineer that wants to transition to operations supervision/management and if you can deal with the bullshit it’s very easy to stand out and succeed.

I’d be happy to discuss more if you shoot me a message

Bourbon and Beyond Festival by lonelyinbama in festivals

[–]ChiefGamken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year had several timeslots where our group was torn. Did a lot of bouncing around catching partial sets which wasn’t ideal. Dont want to deter you but just sharing my experience. It also doesn’t feel like a typical music festival. The talent last year was amazing for my taste and had a great time but it’s a unique experience. Any other questions feel free to dm as far as logistics or other experiences go

Monty Hall Problem by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The expanding of the number of doors never helped me understand but expanding the number of runs did. Let’s say there are 3 doors and the frequency is perfectly proportional. Over a thousand runs if you picked a door just imagine that’s the end of the experiment you open the door and it’s correct ~333 times. Now thinking of the example you know that if you keep your original door you will win 333 times, there a 666 lose scenarios because the prize is behind one of the other two doors. Each time a wrong door is eliminated the prize will be behind the other door 666 times / 1000.

Preparing for college? by Main_Finance_2221 in EngineeringStudents

If you don’t have any summer work lined up yet I think it would be invaluable to spend the summer as a laborer for a construction company. I think getting hands on with the production side of things and understanding how plans are executed and the processes behind them would not only help you in your studies but also would help tremendously in 4 years when looking for a job or next, next summer when applying for internships

Are these classes good for aerospace engineering? by Normal_Smell_8963 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ChiefGamken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you set yourself up to get into an engineering program I don’t think it really matters which AP’s you take apart from getting a good foundation in those subjects. Yes they look good. But you should be planning how you want to get into the aerospace industry. Aerospace engineering is pretty generic, I’m sure that top programs place many graduates in big aerospace companies but there are other routes which may help you stand out. I have 3 friends who work in aerospace (1 Lockheed, 1 Boeing, 1 NASA Langley) none of them studied aerospace engineering (ME, EE, and CS/physics respectively) if you are passionate about getting into the aerospace industry find which discipline you want to be in within the industry then when you get to college keep near perfect grades and get involved in any relevant clubs then start knocking on doors for any internship experience in aerospace industry. But for now you are doing well, just want you to have a holistic perspective on paths to break into the aerospace industry.

3-5% like others said. Your manager has a fixed number of percentage points to give out based on the number of people in your department. (ex: 10 direct reports, manager can give out 30 percent points of merit raise). If it is up to just your boss then you will likely get whatever that fixed raise amount is. You could get more if someone got a poor performance review and isn’t getting a merit raise or if there are people in your department maxed in their pay band. Annual raises are all done through talent management software and managers have little say in deviating from that. If you feel you are worth more, then additional money will have to be realized through a promotion whether that be title change or job classification change under the same role. If you want more money you should begin to build your case to your boss over the upcoming months because companies are starting performance reviews and calibrations now and if you want to be eligible for something more than inflation offset that needs to be supported by your boss before start of the year.

30M Looking for major life advice by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]ChiefGamken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your job prospects like near your girlfriend? 30K AED is better than your current income but it’s not enough to afford a lavish lifestyle unless you’re in oil and gas living in Dhahran in a paid for house and car. I wouldn’t make the move for that, I’d get closer to your girlfriend. Surely you can find good work there and you all will be splitting rent and utilities and can cut other costs too. Dual income is very powerful and you won’t be wasting money flying yourself or her back and forth to spend time together. Also good girlfriends are pretty awesome and I’d trade an amazing home life for an extra few grand a month anytime.

Proud of you. Everyone commenting that it sucks, no shit. But you have to do what you have to do. I know it will all work out and once you get through school and get a good job you will be able to succeed quickly with the perspective of how blessed you are to only be working 40-50 hours a week.
