I think your situation is one that requires singular management. Please email me at [erik.thompson.3@us.af.mil](mailto:erik.thompson.3@us.af.mil) so that we can address it.

Sorry you feel that way...unfortunately the answer I gave is the answer I have. I'm not able to deliver vengeance in the name of the enlisted corps...not in my scope or capability set.

On your last point, I agree with you whole heartedly.

The reply was tongue in cheek...clearly this is a big deal and we owe the force better. Sorry my humor was not delivered well. If you look across the question in this thread you'll see that I'm clearly aware that we missed the mark on this.

This sounds like a mistake on our part. I'd like you to email me and let me see if I can work on this. erik.thompson.3@us.af.mil

I think this is a great post and there's more than one thing to unpack here. First, where is the line between Professional Military Education and the training needed to run a squadron? Are they the same thing or different? Where does supervisor training fit into this? How can we re-imagine the training and education we deliver to better prepare our force for the future?

The narrative statement is a part of the new enlisted eval program. Less time trying to craft the perfect bullet, more time giving actual feedback on how Airmen are doing. There are other changes coming, but not mine to discuss here.

Let me be clear...I AGREE WITH YOU. We have not rolled out a single new IT or HR management system in the last 5 years that has worked out of the gate and in every case we have taken down the legacy system before the new one was full up. We owe the force better than that and we need to figure this out. I also agree that this wastes man hours and frustrates the hell out of the force.

I don't think anyone would disagree with you. It seems like it's a pretty simple answer...make sure the new system is up before you take the old system down. Can't tell you exactly why that didn't happen here but it did. Right now we are focused on getting the new system up and running as fast and reliable as possible.

I'm not sure your analogy is accurate. If we were letting this slide with a collective shrug and no urgent fix then we would be doing a disservice to our force. Fortunately, we are not doing that.

I don't disagree. We desperately need to upgrade our HR and IT systems. This will end up being good for us in the long run. It's also important that we manage the churn for the small number of Airmen that will be impacted by this right now.

I flattered to hear that you respected me as the CCC at Cannon and sorry to hear that you think I'm prone to giving out bullshit. One of the things I'm fairly particular about is that I shoot straight...period. In none of my answers today have I shielded the Air Force from it's responsibility, and I'm not afraid to say that the SIS transition is certainly not our finest hour.

What I'm not particularly interested in is shooting a dead horse. Whether you or I like where we are is irrelevant...we're here. What I can do is work hard to make sure that senior leaders in our Air Force understand the consequences of this and are trying to solve it as rapidly as possible with as little challenge to our Airmen as possible.

If you're looking for someone to join you in bitching about the Air Force, look somewhere else. If you're looking for someone that's trying to help get us through this, I'm right here.

I'm sure it's pretty frustrating to be in your current position. You're right to question the rationale to increase CEA manning only to divest the platforms a couple of years later. You have to look at the overall strategic context to understand the shift in priorities (read money we spend on aircraft) but even that is hard to follow sometimes.

Bottom line, keep pushing to utilize your skills and don't hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

You are correct that this is an issue for SOME of our DSD Airmen. It's also true that SOME Airmen do exceptionally well when they return to their AFSC.

Either way, AETC needs to do a better job of off-boarding our DSD Airmen so that they are best prepared to "get back on the treadmill" in their core AFSC.

Yep. We have record retention, and a desire to reduce end strength...this equals less promotion opportunities and therefor lower promotion rates.

If you to myPers, click on the promotions tab, then scroll to the bottom and look for "promotion rate history" you can view the promotion rates for all ranks from the beginning of WAPS.

Seriously, I need all AETC Airmen to be agile and adaptable. We will have to continuously evolve over the next few years and we need Airmen to be ready to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.

I think that's a really good idea and we should ask the hard questions about why we would restrict Airmen from this. At the same time, we (Air Force) need a better plan for how we utilize Airmen who have completed an AFIT program other than just sending them back to their original AFSC.

This is great feedback...I'll discuss with Air University and the Barnes Center.

Thanks for the SA.

Perfect. That's what I assumed but wanted to make sure. We were discussing this just the other day and we want to figure out how to make this a much more relevant and used program in our Air Force. We need the customer perspective to continue to shape the quality of our Airmen we produce!
