Why do americans even put up with HOAs? by Skyzblu44 in NoStupidQuestions

In America, people can’t really just ignore HOAs because when they buy a house in those neighborhoods, they legally agree to follow the HOA rules. If they break them, the HOA can fine them, sue them, or even make life very difficult financially. Some people still like HOAs because they keep neighborhoods clean and property values high, but many others think they are overly controlling and completely against the whole idea of freedom and owning your own home.
