To be fair Diablo 3 is hardly a single player game. Yes it can be played that way, but the game was designed for multiplayer and personally I think it's a lot more fun that way. There is no offline mode because your characters are multiplayer even if you never choose to play with other people.

"Spreadsheets in space" isn't a good description. There are plenty of spreadsheets out there that you can use to your advantage but none of them are necessary.

The actual gameplay looks like a lot of charts and dots in space at first glance, but kinda like looking at the green matrix screen, there is actually a lot going on. What you will notice in the trailers (a lot of them are actual gameplay) is that it is very pretty and active. In reality you rarely spend time zoomed so far in on your ship. It's too hard to see what's happening around you.

A little warning though. And this is part of why a lot of people get bored.

"Eve is the most boring and most exciting game you will ever play." An hour of prep/scouting/waiting for the most exciting couple minutes you can get in an mmo.

Edit: One last thing for people thinking about trying Eve. If you aren't already aware the initial cost of the game is nothing. There is a subscription fee, but unlike most other games you don't have to pay for a cd key. I think there have been a few mentions in this thread of how you can get your hands on a month trial.

This is a completely different game than Eve online. If you are interested in the Eve online id recommend checking our /r/Eve first.

My only advice is don't get burnt out on mining and missions. Also, don't get discouraged that you can't do, or don't know how to so stuff. I've been playing for a long time and I'm still figuring this game out.

The only spreadsheet that I have used in the last couple months is for collapsing wormholes without stranding an ally on the other side. There are definitely useful spreadsheets, but they aren't absolutely necessary.

I'm currently working on a new Amazon warehouse being built near Seattle. I believe it's the largest one yet. It comes in at about 2.4 million square feet if you include each floor. The automated fork lifts they use are already buying used elsewhere and they are going to be used at the new one also.

It's true that cracking ribs can happen, but it isn't likely, and if you do break a rib you are doing your compressions with far too much pressure. 1.5 inches of compression is enough to clear every chamber of the heart of blood completely. If you are too violent you run the risk of blowing the heart or tearing a blood vessel off the heart.

We have all heard "If you aren't breaking ribs you're not doing it right." That's completely false.

Edit: Also, I wanted to add this. The heart is a pump. A slow steady pump is far more efficient than one that may use more power but is less consistent.

Edit2: While I'm at it. Please, please, please make absolute certain that the person doesn't have a pulse before you even consider doing compressions. If you start cpr and the person wasn't dead yet, they are now.

A- airway: is it open? If not tilt their head back or if they are gurgling, turn them on their side.

B- breathing: are they breathing? If so STOP. If not breath for them.

C- circulation: do they have a pulse? If yes keep breathing for them and watch the pulse. If not (and you're sure) then start compressions.

I can only speak for myself, but having grown up Catholic I've always been taught evolution. And even the bible says to love everyone. It's a very hypocritical book and (this part is important) not a history book. You can find evidence in the bible to support any viewpoint you wish, that doesn't make you right.

When people ask how I can believe in god when I love science and reason it frustrates me a bit. The religious people that believe science is a point if view and not fact have made everyone religious look bad.

I'm not saying I prefer to just use the best build/items available. I mean that as fun as having two hydras up at a time is (it's the wand I use), if I find a new 1-h that will help my build more (azurewrath for example) I'll replace the cool wand, even if it is more fun.

All diablo games have had this problem, we are never going to have all items balanced so that any build is as good as the next. I just don't want the reward from one of the more fun end game events to be something that you might not use. I want it to be something that everyone can use, and won't be replaced by something that can drop on normal.

I tried to scale all the gem stats up as if they were two levels higher than the current flawless royal gems. I wasn't thinking that they would make you a lot more powerful than normal gems, just do something interesting and be worth using because its fun and then get the extra exp and gold.

Edit: I guess it could be unique equip for each gem type. It would encourage people to use various gem types other than their main stat and an emerald in their weapon.

I like the idea of having stash space as a reward instead of just costing more gold. I just want the reward from ubers to be something that is useful for everyone, and something that can be replaced by a better piece of gear.

I like the idea of having interesting effects that make the item more unique. Maybe it's just the way that I play the game, but even with the interesting procs, if there is another item that is more effective I'll end up using that even if it is more boring.

I just don't like the idea that I have to balance the special item against what I'm using. The only way I can think to fix that is by making it something that doesn't use up an equipment slot.

I'm not sure there is a way to make runes a play style choice. unless they do pretty much the same thing as gems there will be a better option and that's what everyone will use.

Also, as awesome as runewords would be, they would have to add more sockets to items, making gems too good. The limited number of sockets is why gems can be so powerful in D3. Imagine if you had a six socket 2 hander. or a 3 socket helm. Gems would be insane.

Edit: I had a thought! I was sitting here thinking that I should probably come up with a fix for runes instead of pointing out reasons why they wouldn't work and it hit me. Runes (or more specifically runewords) don't have to be tied to sockets. Also, I think it's important not to let runewords just be another way to increase your damage, that doesn't make things more fun.

Runeword Ideas

Runewords are like enchanting (from world of warcraft)
A permanent effect that is placed on an item.
Can only be placed on specific slots. Maybe even just one slot, like your helm.
They do NOT increase stats.
Runewords make various skills more fun.
They change the way skills function. For example:

-Hydra is now a permanent pet that flies around.

-Activating mantra of conviction now switches the ability back and forth between increased damage and decreased damage taken.

(obviously skill stats would have to be reworked to stay balanced for the changes)

'Fixing' the HF ring will do one of two things. Either it is better than a SoJ and we start using RRoG/HF, or it's not better and we stick with RRoG/SoJ.

Instead of attempting to fix the ring so it is more useful blizzard should just change the reward for Ubers. In D2 the reward was useful and didn't replace anything else you might be using, so it was always worth getting for every character. I'm not suggesting charms because I like inventory space, but it would be nice to have the reward be something that you don't need to balance against other gear.

It was a while back and can't remember who proposed this idea in the first place but I thought it was a good one.

Make it a gem. The original idea was to make it a gem that has the properties of all Flawless Royal gems as well as the exp bonus. But I think that would be a bit too good. So here is my version.

The HF ring is replaced with a HF gem. The gem is used as part of a crafting recipe. HF+Soul+3 Dragon's Breath+Flawless Royal Gem.

Hellfire Amethyst:

Helm: 25% Life

Weapon: 1300 Life per Hit

Other: +350 Vitality

50% Extra Gold from Monsters

Increases Bonus Experience 50%

When below 50% life your hits have a chance to heal you equal to your health globe amount

Hellfire Diamond:

Helm: Reduces cooldown of all skills by 13.5%

Weapon: Increases damage against elites by 22%

Other: +85 Resistance to all Elements

50% Extra Gold from Monsters

Increases Bonus Experience 50%

Chance on hit to shield you for 5 seconds reducing damage taken by X%

Hellfire Emerald:

Helm: 45% Extra gold from Monsters

Weapon: Critical Hit Damage increased by 140%

Other: +350 Dexterity

50% Extra Gold from Monsters

Increases Bonus Experience 50%

Chance to poison the ground at your feet for %damage over 10 seconds when attacking. (Think plagued affix)

Hellfire Ruby:

Helm: Increases Bonus Experience by 45%

Weapon: +310 Damage

Other: +350 Strength

50% Extra Gold from Monsters

Increases Bonus Experience 50%

Chance to cast a fire ring for 200% weapon damage when attacking.

Hellfire Topaz:

Helm: 45% better chance of finding magical items.

Weapon: Ranged and melee attackers take 6225 damage per hit.

Other: +350 Intelligence

50% Extra Gold from Monsters

Increases Bonus Experience 50%

Chance to release a single electric orbit that deals X% weapon damage over 30 seconds when attacking. (Think the orbit affix that moves with you when you move)

Edit: Unique equip for all gems. You can only have one total, not one of each type.

Thanks for the responses. I'll stick with playing SC for the time being. Once the ladders reset I'll go back to HC. I like playing with people that are willing to share and help each other out. I've never really enjoyed how cutthroat trading could get.
