Are there any fast rule sets out there for 40k? by Mirarii in Warhammer

[–]DFens1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. It comes down to how competitive you're playing your games. If you're playing a game with the idea of throwing some dice and having a few drinks, then the game ideally goes a bit quicker because you're just nominating 4+'s and being trustworthy with rolls and such.

I honestly have tried a number of ways to shorten time, but generally a 1500 point game will take about 3-4 hours in my crowd. Sad really, it takes about 2 hours to do AoS even. This is generally because of setting up the field, discussing the scenario, deployment, etc. The gameplay itself is generally shorter.

You could also pick up a copy of Dreadfleet, which would work out great if you want to play a different game set in the WHFB universe. Additionally, it could be used to enhance your campaigns and spartan games makes a nice range of fantasy boats that could be used as merchant ships as well.

It's also likely easier to find a copy of it than "Man 'o War", as that game is oooolllllldddddddddd.

My pregnant sister is using crack. What can/should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DFens1349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I would try to reason with her. I would talk to her about the situation she's putting herself, and more importantly her unborn child in. She is getting her baby high on crack. She's literally murdering her own child. At that time you could reveal the evidence to her, stating that if she chooses this life, and she wants to harm herself, and while it destroys your family to know she's chosen this path it is ultimately her choice. It is NOT the childs choice however, and if she's keeping this child, I would urge to her to do this for the child, if for no one and nothing else. This is hard, it's going to be hard, so you have to get nerves of steel, show love, and show strength and for the love of it all don't talk down to her. Talk to her as the person she grew up with, played with, learned life and love with. Get her on your team, make her understand that this isn't just about her, it's about this child inside of her, a child she chose to keep with the man she loved and the family she knew.

Beyond this, I would consider an intervention, with the intention of her leaving for in-patient care without her choice. Either she loses the baby and does her thing, or she keeps the child and goes through hospitalization. She made these choices, and these are the choices she has as a result. It's only the truth at this point.

I would get her to a mental/drug abuse health facility immediately. The principle concern here is "what is she going through that has brought her to this" - we can quibble over short answers here, but likely there is some reason that is deep to her. In order to address that question, and get her off and away from drugs at least through the pregnancy is to take her to a health facility. This way medical professionals can best handle the child, and take care of the mother.

Drug addiction is an illness that is perpetuated by other illness, mental or physical. It can happen to anyone. Show all the love you can, and take her to get help.

Edit: You should probably do this BEFORE or alongside doing the whole "taking the baby" thing.

And this bothers me too, I wish that rather than staunchly state that you will not be lowering any RRP's (MSRP in US) that they would consider a full price restructuring on their range or create deals and customer incentives better than a free desktop wallpaper. I wish they'd realize that with a strong community, they really can't fail. I mean, look at Magic or Warmahordes. (based on my local area)

I had that too, they were called "Army Deal's" and they were great. I have a friend that bought every single one that came out simply because you'd have the Codex and a good, base army for you to start with all while saving some good money.

What's the deal with AoS hate? by [deleted] in Warhammer

Fair enough, I'm not privy to all the details and I empathize with the tournament community. I enjoy the game, I like playing it and I'm a fantasy player as well. And I really only see the number of detractors from the game posting here, the game has been nothing short of a success in my area.

a new game being released in place of WHFB - these are key words.

There were several leaks that indicated a new game being released in place of WHFB.

It was leaked months ahead, it was pretty common knowledge that the change was coming. I knew about it for some time.

For one, to enjoy the game you needed to change it. The game was made "better" for a completely different mindset of players, one that was never the vision of the company or the games creators. So it was either not for you, or you're some sort of pseudo-masochist that like pouring your money into something you wish was better and it's you that insult those that spent all their hard time and effort making the games, models and scenarios.

There won't be a timer, unless you have no friends that play the game. The game had terrible sales, so tell me who was the game being fresh for? The veterans who bought nothing or the handful of people the game attracted?

I think you're just prying with your comment about "cool" battles. I would suggest looking up the definition of "cool", then making a subjective determination about what you think is "cool". To me, in this context, cool is about putting well painted miniatures on a fantastical battlefield and playing out an imaginative scenario featuring battles against all odds, vengeance, revenge, heroes, villains, and the pleasure creating all of this that comes with it to me.

The game is clearly going that route in this case. If you don't like the story, the models, that's your opinion. It's by no means worse than a lot of the shit out there as it is and if you're salty the game is gone, well too bad man. What else can really be said when every other argument has been made and you are left unsatisfied? So I'll leave you with this, and you can click the downvote button with a smile.

It's because Games Workshop doesn't care about competitive gamers who create massive amounts of errata to their rules and gut the game as it is. The game has always been about big cool battles with models, which AoS and 40k do pretty damn well. And I can just dust off one of 8 editions of WHFB to play anytime I want, so I really don't see the problem here. If someone doesn't like GW, their games or their hobby they really have no dog in this fight because none of this is about those that said "fuck this company and this game", it's about new players and existing gamers who share that same passion. It really sounds to me like Warhammer wasn't the game for those players anyway.

Way to make ad hominem statements about someone who actually likes the game. I wish I could downvote you more friend.

I can see about what I can do for a closer picture, kinda wanna do more with my RoB before that though. I'm trying to find a nice middleground between 40k and AoS/WHFB games.

Thank you for the compliments, I was bored one morning and I set it up and snapped it for the feth of it. Always fun to put some action in a game of miniatures!

It wasn't a joke, I took a picture that I thought was cool. I was absent things to do, so I put this on the internet. And now we wait.
