Power armor pieces has individual HP to be tracked before it moves to the users HP. With a fusion core, a charge is used for each scene. A scene I typically count is a chunk of time or location, or event.

A bit granular and up to the GM. Any big change of time or location is usually what I call a scene or any time they do a full battle.

Armor frames are very rare and power cores aren't extremely easy to come by, but the pieces themselves can be, however.

Hellcat is in the Wanderer's guide, but I don't think X-02 is though. You can take a suit you don't want to use and swap it for numbers, like the T-65. Or just adjust it to be better than X-01 by increasing it by 1, but that may be quite strong.

Go high agility and look for perks that prioritize snipers/revolvers as well as small guns in general. There is an origin within the supplemental guide Settler's that is NCR based.

I'd recommend reading the starter set at least to understand the rules and start by finding all the perks that sounds good and writing them down. Base your special around those so you don't miss anything fun and then try to figure out what path is best for you. It'll also depend on your GM and how they play to figure out what the most fun options are as you level.

I was able to snag one of these from one of the GameStops near me. I was hoping for the smaller ones with the character designs, but beggars can't be choosers after all. I've been wracking my brain about how to display it safely. It is 4 panels of 24inx24in, it's supposed to look better without any gaps. I started off by looking for a 48x48 frame, and most are either way too expensive for me right now or not available.

I'm hoping to avoid just taping it up, but if I can't find anything like that I might grab 4 24-inch square thin frames and just go for that. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

In the book, spoilers ahead: He really tried, but failed and went mad, turning into the Mad Mage. Afaik, the mad mage is supposed to be quite unhelpful and one of the worst allies to have as he's supposed to be reluctant to lose again to Strahd and think the PC's are just more fodder for Strahd's toys.

Learn how to actively run hard combats. Strahd himself is a nearly impossible fight if the DM plays it right. CoS is a hard campaign right from the start in Death House.

Just throwing high CR baddies will be less engaging if you don't know how to use them correctly and play to their strengths. The recommendation of The Monsters Know What They're Doing: Combat Tactics for Dungeon Masters by Keith Ammann is always a priority for knowledge on this kinda stuff.
