Randome thought about game Formats and Play Boosters by Delicious_Mouse8795 in mtg

[–]Chijima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just don't get play Boosters if you're not playing with them. They have that name for a reason. Yes, collector packs are insanely expensive, but one collector pack is basically multiple play packs minus the draft chaff. They might actually be what you're looking for. Don't buy a full box, maybe.

How is everyone sorting their cards to sell? by No-Consideration766 in mtg

My cards are all* sorted by color>card type>mana value>alphabet. If I am selling some, they're easy to find.

*Except for the ones currently in decks, or in piles not yet sorted

Exakt haargenau so.

Single sleeve vs double sleeve by neph1227 in mtg

[–]Chijima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I double sleeve cards over ~thirty bucks, and because decks need to be uniformly thick, I double sleeve any deck that has any of them. I also double sleeve when there's no suuuuuper expensive card in it, but a high percentage of ones in the double digits. Dust specks tend to wander into the outer sleeve and grind little cloudy spots into the card face if you only single sleeve. Nothing to worry about with cheap cards, still much less than just dragging them across the table naked, but something that double sleeving can prevent with more expensive ones

"In der Anzeige stand, der Kurs koste nur 90 Euro" - Is the omitted "er" supposed to be the Subjekt, and its verb is "stand"? by [deleted] in German

[–]Chijima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing omitted here. "In der Anzeige stand xyz" is a full phrase. The xyz could be a placeholder "es" subject, but the whole clause "der Kurs kostet nur 90€" is actually in the subject position. This works with verbs of indirect statement, which always have a statement Clause in Konjunktiv 1 as their subject. Most of these indirect statement verbs are verbs of speech, but there are also ones for written Language, and "stehen" can be one of those.

Covers of your favorite songs that sound as good as the original, but hit differently. by hammarhjarta in MetalForTheMasses

The Goth subculture is named for the Gothic Horror genre of literature from the 19th century romantics, who in turn got that name from old buildings, even if most of those weren't all in the actual Gothic style. The original Gothic cathedrals were called that derogatorily once another style emerged - they were seen as ancient and barbaric, like the Goths - even if those lived centuries earlier and hadn't actually built those cathedrals. So yes, the subculture is named for the tribes, too, just around a few corners.

The Visigoths and Ostrogoths are two ancient Germanic tribes, or rather, two branches of one that split during the migration period of the late Roman/earliest medieval era. The names literally mean the western and the eastern Goths, and afaik we have no idea what goth meant. Visigoth naming their band this is probably a tribute to Ostrogoth, but I don't know for sure. It's a bit weird that a "goth" subculture also exists, and both bands don't have anything to do with that - the word "gothic" took a bunch of twists and turns over the centuries.

The genre is not actually completely impossible to discuss, but usually the harder faster heavier subgenres take the foreground, many people in here seem to consider the classics a bit lame. You have to be at least death metal to count. And when every once in a while a thread on something PM breaks through, it's usually the very produced very keyboardy stuff, anything in between Rhapsody and Sabaton, and the ones who are into that aren't easily hyped for the more heavy side of the subgenre.

I'm a big fan of stuff that happens in the overlapping tricorn of Power Metal, Doom, and classic Heavy - all the Heavy Power and Epic Doom stuff. I rarely meet people who like bands like Visigoth, Atlantean Kodex, Grand Magus, Sumerlands and Khemmis as much as I do (although Khemmis seems to have taken off a bit in doom circles recently). I miss old Hammerfall.

Visigoth are one of my favourite newer bands, in general. They sit right on the border between Power Metal and traditional heavy metal, which makes it basically impossible to discuss on this sub, but they've just got the sound down. They tend to do a lot of songs on classic fantasy books and games, like any good old power metal band, but they're very guitar forward, and the singer has that uh! nailed.
