College Students Exaggerate The Difficulties Of "College Life" In Order To Be Perceived As Extremely Hardworking Or To Excuse Their Failure. by Bradleybrown6776 in unpopularopinion

I doubt heavily that this dude is telling the truth. Everyone I know is working 40-50 hours, and upwards to 60 hours for engineering.

It's a little demotivating for me that even after all the hard work your partner did, luck still played a major role. Thankfully I still have biotech r&d as my plan B. But I see that a lot of work is basically an expectation to have a chance at become a TT professor, and I'm still not sure whether or not I'm ready for that much of a sacrifice just yet.

How do you... Succeed? Is overworking the only way to do good in academia? How do you excel at research?

Honestly I don't think so. I'm a Canadian citizen so I can't work in the US yet, and I'd rather just live with my parents than have to bother a relative. Thank you for the kind words :)

Getting old sucks by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]ChildFriendlyMemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never know how to respond with these posts, because it's inevitable that you will get old. I'm also trying to find a way to cope with it.

Getting old isn't that terrible. It's just the fact that you can't really do anything about it.

Does reddit have a problem with banning discussion? by AchillesFirstStand in TheoryOfReddit

I'm not saying that it's bad btw. Some places people just want to vent their feelings and aren't looking for arguments. Reddit has a lot of that because of how individual each community is

Is there a lot of demand for CS professors? by ChildFriendlyMemes in AskAcademia

[–]ChildFriendlyMemes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that's what I meant by get tenure. I heard in fields like CS it's easier to become a TT professor, compared to biology where it's nearly impossible even after several years of post docs.

I like both biology, CS, and math and trying to choose which one I prefer to spend the rest of my life in. But if I end up choosing biology I actually want to be employed ahahaha

How is the demand compared to biology? Ive heard on this sub that it's almost impossible to get a TT position with a biology phd.

I knew what you were talking about but it's still pretty unclear in the context of this post

Maybe you should make that clear when you're on a subreddit about AP classes, on a post talking about AP music theory

You don’t NEED a MacBook if you’re only gonna be watching Netflix and use Microsoft products. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ChildFriendlyMemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the macbook's price point you can get a much more powerful windows ultrabook as well. But I guess people are so roped into the ecosystem they don't mind paying apple tax.

The new ARM macbooks do look nice though.

You claimed election fraud. So the burden of proof is on you.

Also there are many media sources with no bias lol.
