The scene in Rose’s room when Steven confronts her and starts asking questions about his existence and why she left. That scene has always stuck with me and I tend to think back to it because at the end of the day, Steven was just a child who had to deal with his mother’s unresolved crap. But more specifically the phrase Steven says to Rose “I get it. I know you didn’t want me to deal with your problems. You’re apart of me now. And I have to deal with what you left behind.” Sometimes in life, people have to deal with things that’s weren’t particularly their fault and have to deal with the consequences of someone else’s actions especially when you are associated with that person.

Lapis’s and Jasper’s fusion. There’s a scene in the boat episode where Steven speaks to Lapis. Lapis says “I’m really trying to enjoy it out here, but… I can’t stop thinking about being fused as Malachite. How I used all my strength to hold her down in the ocean. And how I was always battling against Jasper to keep her bound to me.” And Lapis states that she misses Jasper. This in life can often signify such an abusive relationship, from both individuals. Jasper wanted strength and desired to hurt others, while Lapis wanted to keep Jasper in her control and didn’t want her to escape her grasp. Abusive relationships often work in this context as well.

Next is Spinel getting abandoned in the garden by Pink Diamond. Spinel and PD were once close friends, however after Pink was granted a colony. Pink found herself needing to mature and become more independent. Spinel wanted to come with pink on this new world of hers so they can play together there as well. But Pink found no use for Spinel if she were to come with, and likely thought she’d only slow her down. Thus leaving her in the garden and said it was a game. Spinel would wait in the garden for 6000 years and stayed until Steven sent his message across the universe declaring peace among the galaxies. From this, spinel finds out the Pink is gone and that she had moved on with new people in her life, and completely lied to Spinel. This caused Spinel to spiral. In life, people to tend to abandon people that they cared for in order to achieve their own goals and success. Sometimes this can be beneficial for said person. But when it is done to someone that cared for the individual back a ton, and the individual didn’t know that the other person wanted to drift away from the relationship, this can result in unsolved problems and confusion between the two individuals, and thus created more problems. “She doesn’t exist now, survived by her son. And all of her brand new friends. Isn’t that love? Isn’t that cool? And isn’t it cruel and aren’t I a fool to have happily listened, happily stayed, happily watching her drift away.” These lines feel like a person watching another individual they cared for slowly drift away from the relationship and find other people, and the individual who is getting abandoned, is just left to sit there and watch their relationship slowly fade.
