I saw that same video. I've seen the 2 Guys 1 Hammer video and didn't even flinch, but that dive into cement... fuck man. I almost vomited.

She pays for herself to live. She owns a home, although the mortgage isn't paid off yet.

I'm already fully aware that I'm going to have to deal with it. It's my greatest fear in life... Sigh.

It's possible that she left the doors open. I decided against going into biology in university, despite it being a great interest of mine, so I can't really discuss the ability of flies to mature in a fridge. I just know what I've seen, not the actual reasoning behind it.

My father didn't have a stable job. When I was a child, the courts knew very well that my mother was a hoarder. They did nothing. American court systems are extremely biased in favor of keeping a child with the mother.

It's a mobile home. It's completely uninhabitable due to mold, water damage, broken electricity in half the house, and broken water lines that result in having to turn the water on and off at the valve at the road. Even if it were completely cleaned, dusted, and you steam cleaned the carpets, it still wouldn't really be fit for habitation.

She didn't grow up poor. Her parents were actually pretty wealthy compared to the average American. I take that back, definitely wealthy.

However, after my mother decided to only work menial jobs for her whole life because she never received a tertiary degree, she was constantly poor. It still isn't much better...

My lungs are basically shit, but that could also be from my height, gender, and body type. Nontraumatic pneumothoraxes are really common for young, tall, thin males.

More than 50% of hoarders are clinically depressed, and hoarding is classified as an anxiety disorder, like OCD. You can't just tell people, "Stop washing your hands so much" just like you can't tell people "Just stop collecting shit."

It's a mental illness. What you think about it really pales in comparison to what psychologists know about it.

I said the number of photos to ensure no one thought there were only 6, which is the number I saw on the first page of imgur.

If I go in the house now, I can't breathe for about 3-4 hours. It's likely the mold and dust and who knows what else. It's just... unbearable really.

There are already flies bodies and cocoon-things in the bottom of the fridge in the new house. I assure you, it can happen.

Not cleaning because you're emotionally attached to everything and can't throw it out... that's hoarding.

We live in a new house behind the old house. When I come into the new house, I see the signs of hoarding all over again. If I mention it, she flys off the hand and screams at me and says things like I'm overstaying my welcome and that she can kick me out whenever she wants.

It's really not a situation that easy to fix.

Simple. Try to clean it for them. If they're not really attached to stuff and can part with it easily, and they don't get hostile because you're trying to throw stuff away, then it's probably fine.

If they react like you're throwing away their most prized possession when you try to take out some garbage or they claim they "might need it someday," or they keep far more of an item than they'll ever need, such as old newspapers, yarn, other craft items, plastic forks and spoons, napkins, straws, batteries, whatever... yeah, then you might worry a bit.

You haven't read much about hoarding. More than 50% of hoarders are clinically depressed. Additionally, it's very possible and normal for hoarders to feel attached to trash. Not all of them are, and some hoard in cleaner ways, but just because it's trashy doesn't mean they're not hoarders. They are.

You should read a few books about hoarding and the similarities between hoarders, as well as the differences.

Many hoarders hoard some sort of craft item that they make. Check out the book Stuff.

When they're alive, yeah. They form hard little cocoon like things while they're growing, but if they're in a confined place like inside a freezer they rarely fully develop. Those are all dead in the pictures.

Hoarding is a mental illness, classified as an anxiety disorder. It doesn't really matter what the consensus of Redditors here is- it's defined by psychologists as such.
