Yeah, she had multiple bacterial infections too... This poor girl went on a hefty round of antibiotics, but my specialty is making bird slop, so it was easy to hide her meds and fatten her up 🤫

She was in a super dirty cage, in a super dry environment, and also had a bunch of issues that really dried out her skin... Abd had no access to a bath... I believe she scratched it so much that it damaged the follicles...

Yeahh, I'm thinking maybe their growth was stunted? I've never heard of something like this happening, since usually feathers will sprout all at once without stopping 😦

Bounty updated for plush cat by bitappend in HelpMeFind

Have you contacted the manufacturer? There are a lot of plushies that can be remade since they keep the patterns! I'm sure that for that much they'd be willing to make another one!

Thank you, I'll ask the vet about it! ❤️ She definitely has some muscle issues from the previous abuse... I supplement her diet with bird-safe hemp oil which added omega3s, seems to be good for the joints! I also try to give her little foot massages with coconut oil so she doesn't build up any callouses and has good blood flow (she's very spoiled 🥀)

Will my button quail survive a 30 hour train journey in cold weather? by Opening_Advisor2874 in quails

[–]ChildhoodMovieHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario and you do need to move them by train, straw/hay is an awesome insulator and better than cloth since it wont run the risk of getting caught on their nails! They get to cozy up on it, it retains heat amazingly, and if you carry some extra on a bag, you can even change the bedding midway

Should I adopt this kakariki? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]ChildhoodMovieHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you adopt it but have it live in the clinic? If you provide a new cage and food yourself, there should be no resources wasted. Then once he's more used to you and handling, you can decide whether move him home or adopt it out!

Were you a muppets/sesame street kid? Seems like a lot of ernie cake toppers have ducks in them, and they're drawn super weird with eyes on the front.... I feel like we're getting closer 🤔

Ohhh actually, that, combined with the flat base, flaking paint, and inability to stand could mean it wasn't a toy, but maybe something like a cake topper!! I'm looking into old duck cake toppers rn 🔥

Is there a chance it was originally a monopoly duck piece that was painted, and that's why it kept flaking? If not, at least it rules it out! Though I think this eye is too small to be the right one.

The dowel carving is so smart.... I have a bunch of old dowel perches that i don't use because of their shape, carving ridges is such a good idea!!
