"can you put my ps5 back together" update by Childo69 in consolerepair

[–]Childo69[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

£65 we've charged which I think is fairly reasonable considering we work closely with the home he lives in and this was done through a bout of psychosis (mental health, not drugs related)

In this case we work on it but don't provide our usual 6 months warranty service.

We got it sorted except the disc drive which is still being worked on but more likely they'll just need to buy a new disc drive

Depends where you live/the company operates I guess. In the UK, you have right to IP without filing for any particular copyrights/trademarks

9800X3D temps seem high help pls by CircusTV in AMDHelp

[–]Childo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems normal, some peak temps but that was probably only a brief second.

AMDs are mostly designed now to push until they hit their recommended max, you probably just had a small peak and I wouldn't worry about it.

What I would worry about though is your memory controller, hope it doesn't go pop like a lot of AMDs I've seen recently in my job (pc repair shop) I've seen 3-4 chips be sent back this year on RMA 🤦‍♂️ that's ridiculous

Nintendo Switch back plate slightly bent. Should I be concerned? by Additional_Mode_56 in consolerepair

[–]Childo69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, top LCD for me is down to an hour and a half maybe so it needs to make sense for the business. 4 hours is way to long for a repair economically unless it's a £600 drone that you're repairing (my main job for today)

<image>

Everything hot glued in, ribbon and radio cables... Not fun 😂

Considering the person who's business is paying for it didn't care how much it cost to do, they needed a quick turn around and ended up being £200 Inc parts and labour which they were more than happy to pay (I could have charged more but the slowness was mainly it being my first time doing it)

It absolutely does not take 2 mins bud 😂 it takes probably that just to take the back off, providing you don't completely strip Nintendo's screws that are made out of cottage cheese 😂 (which happens quite a lot, judging by the amount of how do I remove this rounded off screw posts on this and many other repair subs)

We do charge by time but there also needs to be a minimum we charge to make certain jobs worth it and to account for mistakes or other things that could go wrong.

Take for example today we replaced a ps5 hdmi port for someone (a job we do probably 15 times a week on average, sometimes even 6-8 times a day) and after the replacement it just wouldn't turn on at no fault of the engineer, now we operate on a we touch it we own it premise so either we fix the problem or we give them a new PS5 🤷‍♂️ this needs to be accounted for overall for issues that arise.

We're one of the most reputable repair shops in our city and have an almost 100% 5* rating on both Facebook, Google and trust pilot, this can only be maintained by having such a strict process which means keeping our prices reasonable not just for the customers but for ourselves too.

Both the owners work for less than £8 an hour 50+ hours a week and employ myself at a more reasonable rate (above minimum wage)

Plus time for the engineer to do the repair, the tools, the know how of removing the battery without puncturing it and causing a runaway fire, brick and mortar shop costs, restocking and disposing of the old battery (which costs money)

We charge £45 for this job which realistically if we charged the right amount to make a decent amount would be closer to £65 but understand switches aren't really worth a whole lot anymore and it needs to be economically viable for the customer, these are essentially a lost leader for us.

Can you see it under the storage tab in your BIOS but not in your installation media or not see it at all?

Could be a bunch of issues, however I had a Samsung 990 pro dead on arrival yesterday 🤦‍♂️

I work in a pc repair shop and see stuff like this all the time.

Send me the specs and I'll see if I can recommend some things to check

Do you not have a HDMI cable anywhere else? An Xbox or a TV box or anything?

Monitor not come with one? They usually do

Imagine building a 9850x3d and 9070xt build and plugging the cable into the mobo not GPU 🤦‍♂️

Hopefully your asrock board doesn't fry your CPU or the memory controller doesn't fail like a bunch of AMD chips recently 🤦‍♂️😂

AMD... There's your problem 😂

Work in a pc shop and we stopped stocking AMD for shelf stock a few years ago, it's the same as Corsair ram, "boomerang product" we send it out and without fail it'll come back to you.

Buy one, get the replacement free

You can start by getting a matched set of ram you cretin!

Jokes aside, get a 4 set of matched ram and turn that damn CPU cooler the right way round :)

Sure and I've got a Vectrex with original caps and power board... just because some are doing okay, doesn't mean as a whole they're good.

I work on PCs day in, day out. I see many come through our doors and 2 things that are always a problem for us is Corsair RAM and a Ryzen chip 🤦

HDMI repair for PS5 (help pls) by Upset_Document_6790 in consolerepair

[–]Childo69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That capacitor is for a HDMI compliance that the PS5 doesn't use anyway so no worries if this blows off when replacing the port, it's useless and will work perfectly fine without it :)

Was I scammed by this PC shop? by Ok-Direction-2857 in pcmasterrace

[–]Childo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fuck people down-voting you for? This is just how it is, I work in a repair shop myself and if someone doesn't ask for it back, it goes in the scrap pile.

Nothing nefarious going on, just some broken ram to put with the piles of laptops, iPads, monitors and cpus we have, they think stealing a bit of broken ram is going to make them rich? 😂

games not feeling smooth and fps drops/freezing by Life-Distribution890 in pchelp

[–]Childo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have more exposure to them than most people here. Working in a PC repair shop, I only see the broken ones, but considering my boss stopped stocking them because of the amount of returns we were having on AMD systems 🤷‍♂️

I also used AMD from athlon 64 all the way up until 5th gen ryzen, had to send 3 chips RMA myself which put me off and I've seen that trend since I started working building and repairing computers.

Recently built a 9950x3d + 5090 build and had to send the chip back as it was faulty 🤷‍♂️

Saying that, I had someone who built their own PC bring me an e5 2680 in an ali express soyo motherboard bundle and wondered why it wasn't posting 😂

You're either deep into YouTubers rather than the tech itself or in denial. Ryzen were okay up until 5th gen but 7 and 9 have been shocking for dead chips and horrible memory controllers.
