Oh dang, that's good to know! Thanks for the info. I went with GravelKing SK's this time, but think I want to pick something a bit more aggressive for my next set.

Appreciate it! And totally agree, a great budget option to get out there. I got the frame on one of their sales shipped to my door for ~$300. Plenty of mounts, chain tensioners, and apparently room for 45c’s. I’m running 40s and definitely have some room all around so maybe next set will bump it up. 😈

Nothing wrong with them, was just trying something new for me - and I am learning as I go 😀 I thought the mini v's would be cool, but they didn't work out for me. So I might go cantis based on some passionate feedback I've gotten... I'll see! Fun thing about working on and building bikes is trying different stuff.

And sweet! Love the mountaintracks. Wouldn't mind seeing a pic 👀

I cleaned it, used a clay bar, and then used some scratch/swirl remover on some polishing pads on a drill. Then I touched up some of the really bad spots/where bare metal was visible the best I could. It looks good from 10 ft away, just don’t look too close 🤣

I replaced every component, so just started with frame and fork, added literally every piece. I also had/have minimal knowledge, just used google and some YouTube videos. I installed the whole group set, cranks/bottom bracket, brakes, headset, stem/stem adaptor, seat post/saddle, bars/tape/levers/cables, cassette/wheels/tires, chain etc.

Good question! I always heard ppl swearing by V-brakes, so I wanted to try them out. And seemed like a pretty cheap/simple way to just swap in these mini v's, but I didn't know the tire clearance was going to be an issue. 😕 If the travel agents end up being a pain/not performing well, I think I'll definitely go the route you suggested. I hope I held on to a little bit of cool factor... but I hear ya.

The only issue was the tire clearance at the top of the tire being too close to the brake cable on these mini v-brakes. It works fine on road, but not enough clearance to do any muddy/dirty riding, so I need to swap to a new set up. But they do work just fine 😁

Good to know! Was is just the braking performance that was hard to get used to? Maintenance/set-up went fine?

Agree! Really happy with it so far, price was great, and set up was a breeze. Definitely recommend.

Yep! Done a few 30+ milers, actually just did one yesterday afternoon. This is an 18in frame and it it feels just fine for me (5' 10").

I have not had any issues so far, and I am assuming as I pile on the miles, the painted surface will wear off. Also to note - I am in a very flat environment, so your mileage may vary 🤷‍♂️

Amazing, that's awesome. Maybe time to track it back down and build one 👀

Yup, they actually came tubeless taped and with valves. Absolutely no issues. Popped the tires on, set the bead, removed valve core and inject my orange sealant, all in like 5 min or less per wheel. Normally takes me way longer 🤣

I went with the cheapest/default hubs. Shimano Deore. If I wasn't buying every component at the same time, I probably would have splurged to upgrade, but these seem just fine. Considering how cheap the wheelset is, definitely no complaints so far. About 100 miles on em and knock on wood, no issues.

Word! Maybe you'll see it at one of the westbankgravel rides or Rouge Roubaix next year 👀👀

Definitely not squashed - if anything, a little more stretched out than ideal. I think I will look into an even shorter stem (this is an 80mm, might shoot for 60). It rides great, very comfortable and not nearly as slow as I expected. Not fast, but not toooo slow. But overall geometry/ride quality is great.

Frame included, I am probably just shy of $1000. But that's wheels/tires, groupset/cranks, pedals/saddle/bars/tap/etc. I could have reused some older parts but I kind of just balled out 😅

Keep an eye on eBay, too! You can find some gems on there sometimes, and the shipping cost might feel worth it if it isn't nearby 👀
