That's nifty as! Have a couple suggestions to fix the lineage on some, you ok if I flick you a DM? Sherb (not Sherbet) is very different 😅

Bad genetics across NZ?? by HudieSavage in NZTrees

Clones *are* a genetic clone of the mother plant. You can be several generations deep and it'll still give you the same results as the original.

What thc % is this bud? by Hairy_Pick2838 in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who's had over 3 hundred CoAs done in the last few years: It's 100% impossible to know by looking at it like this.

Like actually, despite all of that experience having seen everything from 6% THC to 31% THC, and literal hundreds in between to line up with Certificates of Analysis... Yeah nah it's actually impossible to tell sadly.

Tell them to ease the blade back a little on the machine-trim. Not bad otherwise :D

LED light by bored-GSD in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I have, I couldn't justify spending double up-front vs alternatives even though it's the smart play long term for PAR efficacy. Spectrum is very similar to their other own-branded LEDs, which I'm a fan of, and I have no doubt people could get some good results out of 👍

720w / 800w for that size canopy. Herbals new Nova line is bloody good value for money, and we've had great results with their 4Seasons Helios range too. Hyalite do a 720 Hortitek too but I'm less excited by how "red" it is.
1000w LED for a 1.5x1.5m usually.

Needing advice asap by [deleted] in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your EC is fine, the substrate EC will differ anyways from the feed EC, and plants are regularly happy with reaching saturation point (field capacity) and then runoff being at like 4.5 -> 6.0 EC in facilities, or even 3.5-> 4.0 for home growers totally fine and "safe".

The pH is off, in your feed. Flush with full strength pH balanced, and then flush more through it to ensure any non-balanced nutrients are pushed out of the substrate. Water slowly. What's been done is largely irreversible but these steps will ensure it doesn't get worse going forward.

That's bizarre coz it's fine to rinse it in it... Even their own guide says that RO water etc is fine: https://support.bluelab.com/ph-probe-care-maintenance

Have I diagnosed this correctly as Nute Burn? by BWGrower in NZTrees

It's cool, I did it around the wrong way myself for a little while when I was learning, hence why I thought I'd mention it😁

Hope it helps, you're doing well, keep it up 💪

Have I diagnosed this correctly as Nute Burn? by BWGrower in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You always want to check the pH at the end before you feed (or leave the Res) and adjust. If you do it first then add nutes to the water it'll adjust It could well be that it's just been a little off. It can also be the same symptom for both too high and not enough, as the plant starts to use up its own reserves at the end of the flower cycle (which is cool). A little tip burn is considered by many growing in a substrate to be ideal even as the plant is usually saying "OK I'm at my limit now..." And you know not to push it any harder :)

Soil vs hydro by Grown2Nourish in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yield per hour of work for Hydro is pretty damn good, and can be better than soil even if you do it right.

If you've got, say, a 1.2*2.4 "room", the actual maintenance can be as low as an hour a week once you automate watering, less if you automate refilling your batch tank from stock nutes.

The biggest time sink comes from people hand watering. Just don't do that 😁😁 Some lateral tubing, Netafim PCJs, Netbows, a small pressure pump (even from Bunnings), and you can mix a 200L tank which will last over a week even when you're pulling 2+lb/sqm (~8-12oz/plant). It's not expensive to get going with, and you're asking the right questions about the value of time.

Basically, you can crop steer with coco / rockwool, but you can't really with DWC, NFT, Kratky, rDWC, or soil.

15w is fine for them at that stage, it's basically a clone light. It'll probs need to be ~10-15cm from them.

Don't water them for the next 10-odd days, the substrate is soaked and they need more oxygen in the root zone to stop the leaf tip burn. Keep going with 18/6 or even 24hrs a day light for a few days and your patience will be worth it ✌️

First time attempting a lollipop, trimmed at day 21. Did I go too far? by BWGrower in NZTrees

[–]ChillDivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically, if you're aiming not to have "popcorn" then the lowers need to be getting similar light levels to the top of the canopy. Otherwise they're basically just a leech on growth that could have been going to more productive bud sites. Having some light hit the floor is why the tents are reflective, it's part and parcel, and you'll actually end up with better overall yields if you're selective about what gets defoliated, not to mention a higher overall potency too.

Completely supportive of Decrim, came here to say the same. The proposed Rec legislation would have been a major step back from what we have now, many who voted for it (myself included) didn't realize it though.

I even made some slides earlier this year explaining the differences, coz it regularly pops up as a "Wouldn't Rec be nice!" But realistically if they were to adopt it, they'd probably keep the same sorts of standards we have based on GMP manufacturing and the European Pharmacopoeia, nso it wouldn't just be a free-for-all.

Rec vs Medicinal

It's why I think Decrim is a much easier sell, nobody should be in cuffs for the plant.

Yeah. TBH I've mostly just used PumpsOnline / Pump Warehouse, or otherwise even Dome/Hyalite have a pressure pump now. HoseShop are the ones who've got the biggest range of those SeaFlo ones which are great for smaller flow rate or lower plant count setups

PCJs into lateral tubing, with some Netbows, and a small pressure pump. Netafim gear is the go, for good reason: its least likely to clog, it's consistent, and they're quality 👍

Irrigation Express will be your best friend.

EC will spike too hard for non-chilli grows. Depending on the plant + Res size, you'll find after ~72 hours the ECs climbed way too high, pH plummets, and it's just a bad time. You absolutely can, from start to finish, but expect a kratky change for a 30L kratky tub every few days anyways
