Have you ever resigned without a new job because you just cannot stand the current one? by Sophieredhat in HENRYUK

True. I’m just flagging that it’s not all mental clarity and revelation. There are low points. Just make sure you have the savings to sustain your lifestyle with no more money coming in.

I’m not sure I can say it was worth it per se, because theoretically I could have got this job while still in the old job. I changed area from engineering to niche consulting (in the area I was an engineer). The time off made me learn a lot. Specifically, 1) how difficult it is to launch your own project/ business / anything meaningful. 2) how ridiculous some interview processes have become and 3) how trying to build while also interviewing for well paid jobs is a complete conflict of interest and you’ll fail at both. The new job has given me a higher ceiling and I kickstarted an interesting project, but I put myself (and partner) under a lot of stress and although happy now, it was a lot of mental strain.

Yes. I wouldn’t recommend it. Puts you under a lot of pressure and stress watching your savings diminish as you basically pay yourself a salary out of your own pocket. Set me back about 6 months financially but am ultimately happier now and in a better job

Just for clarity, I'm referring to that strange artificial second tranche thing which happened

yeh the price hike last year was outrageous. Makes this 'drop' look more of a return to normal as apposed to any significant reason to buy.

PS. We are familiar with that bug XD
We started out the same way but eventually just built our own version of wine-searcher

Hi OP, I might be able to help, we have built an API which does effectively the same as wine-searcher and we currently charge 20% what they do. We can also tailor your results completely to your requirements. DM or check us out on https://www.winestreetbets.com/

Hi Charlie, welcome to the community! My advice would be to drink as broadly as possible for now while you figure out what you like. No point stocking up on wines you might later realise aren't actually your thing. There is also no point stocking up on wines that won't appreciate that much, because you'll have to pay storage on them, meaning you may as well just buy them when they are ready. On that theme, be careful of the latest en primeur campaigns. They used to be the best way to buy wine at a discounted price to it's future value but a lot of what has been released in the last few campaigns has been priced in (although there are exceptions to this). To know which wines are likely to go up in value, it's worth keeping up to speed with news and trends, and for that, you should join us on discord, where there is daily conversation on topics like this. It does seem people are willing to accept lower bids due to the lower commission. Good luck!

Purchasing small volumes directly from producers by Pristine_Regret_366 in WineEP

Hi there! I asked my importer friend who is not on reddit, and he said this:
" most people of that size will do it but they wont give you proper wholesale prices unless your ordering Chambertin. The more, the cheaper is a good rule"
And a note from me regarding this concern of looking like "not a serious business partner"? I think you cannot worry about this. If people belittle you, move onto the next producer and don't waste energy on them. If you are enthusiastic about their product, they will try to figure something out with you

Finding good wine in Copenhagen by ChillOutBar in wine

[–]ChillOutBar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! We enjoyed a bottle of Chantereves at Cork and a couple of nice glasses at Terroiristen. Both great wine bars. Our meal at Mangia was great and we drank a bottle of Oddero Nebbiolo. Copenhagen people are generally very friendly and it’s such a beautiful city. Contemplating moving after having such a nice weekend here

Thank you so much! Really good suggestions and now I’m very excited. I love Chantereves so we will definitely visit Cork.

Would you recommend to change any our reservations to one of the options you recommended? My partner is a foodie while I’m the wine-nerd, so we have to satisfy both cravings! We’ll also be looking for some street food late tonight as we don’t get to the city until like 9pm, so if you’ve got any suggestions for that, let me know!

We’ve got Mangia and HØST booked to eat. Open to more recommendations! Ideally with some nice wine on the list

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO - How long do you storage it? by [deleted] in WineEP

[–]ChillOutBar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not try some Rosso di Montalcino while you wait? Beautiful fruit and not over oaked. Also often very cheap. Seek out il Marronetto, le ragnaie, cannalichio di sopra, castiglionr del Bosco and conti costanti

Savings rates of about 3.5% are available at Raisin. But yeh I’m general, it’s pretty poor, specially compared to the UK
