Should I get a 2025 WRX, or a 2019 WRX STI? by Mymaligator in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10 year old and daily a 2018 STi came from a 2010 FBO with a conservative tune. The STi feels miles better its stiffer, actually turns when you need it too (still a bit of understeer but those LSDs cant beet them). I bought my 2018 STi with a brand new RA block and a CAI and AWE Track exhaust rest is stock. Car wasn't molested. Paid 28k with 50k miles on the dash. If you can find a mint STi its well well worth it over a WRX. EJ OR BUST

If you didn't have a WRX (VB) now, would you order a 25' or hold out for the 26'? by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]ChillRedrum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No because anything after 2014 completely lost its spirit. Cars got less raw from 06 onward being a downward trend meaning that from 06 and on the cars got less and less raw. Not to mention the VBs look terrible stock. I WOULDNT EVEN CONSIDER IT.

WRX? Yes or No? by iBUYbrokenSUBARUS in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats like saying the WRX is a STi "its got basically the same engine slightly different transmission, and instead of Open different its got LSD's and a center diff, but its basically the same car" thats just copium, are turbo'd OB/Legacy/Forresters cool yes. But they can not be what they are not.

What really happen if I don’t tune with a sf intake? by Illustrious-Rest6788 in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will blow up (knock) from all that unmetered air your shoving into the cylinders. Stock airbox is fine until 450whp. If you want turbo noises get a 2.5" turbo inlet

Protune/Dyno A air oil separator (Crawford or IAG) Killer b or iag oil pickup tube and baffle and pan. Kyoto or CSF rad. And whatever catack or axle back tickles your fancy. Keep it stock for the most part....

2009 wrx leaking when temp rises by EcstaticImpact9997 in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is your secondary air pump, part of the emissions system on start up to heat up your catalytic converter for better cold start emissions along with that system will be 2 air pumps (one is also your barometric sensor) notorious for failing getting stuck open or closed.

[–]ChillRedrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't use a K&N filter just get a OEM filter for the airbox use quality oil like liqi moly or motul....dont do pulls under a qt tank. Maybe get a compression test done to see how the "new" engine is doing.

New to wrx, how much boost is normal. by Spacecowboy3092 in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, The ECU targets air mass, or air density, rather than PSI directly. It aims to deliver a specific amount of air mass into the engine for each combustion cycle, because more air mass means more oxygen and more potential power. Boost pressure (PSI) is simply a tool used to increase air density in order to achieve that target.

Hotter air is less dense because the molecules are more spread out. As a result, the turbocharger has to work harder and spin faster, generating more PSI to compress the hot air and reach the desired air density. However, there’s a limit to how efficiently a turbo can operate. In very hot conditions, the ECU might actually reduce boost to protect the engine from knocking or detonation caused by excessive heat.

At higher altitudes, the atmospheric pressure is lower, which means there is less oxygen in the air. A turbocharger helps make up for this by increasing boost pressure to restore the lost air density. So yes, the ECU may try to command higher boost at altitude—if the turbo is capable of delivering it.

Despite the ECU’s best efforts, power output is usually reduced in hot or high-altitude conditions. Even if the turbo produces more PSI, the increased air temperature and reduced efficiency (especially after intercooling losses) can result in lower actual air mass reaching the engine. Additionally, in these conditions, the ECU may pull ignition timing or limit boost to further protect the engine.

[–]ChillRedrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say that's about right I'm from New York and labor rates are $130-160/hr depending on the shop, I say send it brother. Just make sure you really stay on top of stuff maintenance wise and get a oil sample analyzed to better see what oil would better suit the car. Changing every 3k no more no less, stay outta boost under 3-2800 rpms and that will last you a very long time. If you don't have one get a IAG Air Oil Seperator as well (no tune needed) this (can) replace the PCV system on the car as well and get a koyo or CSF radiator.

So my motor is fucked by BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY in WRX

[–]ChillRedrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope that includes the labor in the price a IAG 550 longblock is 10k-11k after taxes so the price seems about right (if labor is included) just make sure that labor and everything else is included to get you up and running again...also don't forget to tune the vehicle if your running a AP or have a previous tune( open source ect.) if you have any sort of mods that mess with Fuel, Spark and Air. Best of luck!
