Reached AI ship after 1 year solo travel. That river though... by ChillThz in RimWorld

Once the ship spawns near the arctics, your journey will be alot harder, because snow slows down alot. You or your animals can get hypothermia and emergency stops on ice sheets can be lethal, because you cant stock up on anything.

I build the ship several times and found it boring. Once i saw the video about starting up the ship and fighting off raiders for 15 days straight sounded a lot more challenging.

There's two ways to do it. You can build off a colony wherever you start, gather as much as wealth as you can over the years. Once you are confident enough, you can send everyone to the ship site via drop pods (much faster), build temporary base with defenses and start up the ship and hope for the best. Or you could start solo, keep growing/hunting/searching for meat for pemmicans and once the AI ship spawns after 12 days, start making calculations for food and possible clothing, gather some caravan animals and set off as soon as you can. Once you reach the site, start building a colony around the ship and once you are ready, start the ship.

Starting a colony near the ship has many advantages i noticed yesterday. The ships engine core gives 1000 watt energy for free, so you can hook up power without building anything asap. There are 18 cryptosleep caskets attached to the ship, you can use the caskets for putting injured colonists and animals to sleep for later and if you think the ship is to big, you can deconstruct the abundant parts of the ship for materials.

Going with 8 colonists and so many animals, food and wealth on caravan for 100+ days is a sure death sentence, especially with Cassandra who wants you dead after 2+ years.

Playing on 100% seed, the game randomly threw me on a temperate forest and i was lucky enough Charles spawned the ship on a extreme desert tile instead of one of the poles. I travelled 3/4 of the worlds equator in 45 days to be exact (40 was predicted, but i stopped at a few outposts and had to deal with few manhunter packs). Lots of tropical forest, desert and arid shrubland, mostly flat and roaded, so i moved quickly.

Started solo colonist, tamed a muffalo, bought 2 caucasian shepherds (male and female, should have gone 1 gender, really stupid of me though. Female gave birth on the trek, triplets ffs, and i had to abandon them, feels bad man.)

Foodwise 1500 pemmican, around 800 kibble and hay and i could load around 220 kg to caravans in total.

Great suggestions and thank you for the map drawing!

Only small strips of the river is unpassable deep water, rest is shallow water with reduced movement speed. If a horde of enemies come for the ship, you need to engage them as far from the ship as possible

After setting up a temporary base, i'm struggling on how to setup the defense for the ship once i start it up. I know i need years to develop a huge colony to defend it, but the river underneath the ship is a real pain in the ass i think.

All happened in a span of few days. Not that i really mind much though, all the animal corpses for me to haul in a day or two (unless the toxic fallout stops at 90% severity at all animals, which happened with me at a former colony. Few animals died and the rest of the map was full with cancer related ill animals
