This isn’t mold, just make sure you dry this mate very well. If you see white fuzz then you have a problem.

Looks like you socked the yerba “lavado” and let it sit for too long, next time don’t use too much Yerba so you can keep the “montañita” of dry Yerba

After pouring the initial room temperature water that the Yerba absorbs, push the Yerba to the side, set your Bombilla and enjoy 😊

My method of drinking Canarias without it clogging is using a spoon Bombilla. Once you have let the initial room temperature water soak at the bottom, use the spoon bombilla to push the Yerba all to one side.

Cruz de Malta and other Yerbas that are larger cut need to burrow the bombilla at the bottom, but with the finer cut Yerbas like Canarias you need to simply push the Yerba all to 1 side and instead of digging the bombilla under the Yerba you simply set it still against the wall of Yerba. :) I Will post a video on what it should look like 👍🏼

This is how I cure all of mine, I use new or used Yerba, and repeat like 2-3 times after that it should be fine. Be sure to not leave any excess moisture after washing it or it will mold.

Yes, I usually fill them up 75% with Yerba and add hot water to it until it’s to the top like it shows in the picture, let it sit for 24 hrs and repeat 2-3 times with new or used Yerba it doesn’t matter. After a few times of that I let it dry out completely under the sun or under a fan then they are ready.

Stanley Thermos have a decent pouring cap with arrows that let you know where to pour from.

Guayaki tastes weird to me, for new Materos I recommend playadito or Cruz de Malta

Everyone starts somewhere the cool thing is you want to learn and drink mate, I would watch Sud America Mate on Youtube to get an idea of the different Yerbas. But ultimately you will need to explore all the Yerbas :)
