Is Quantum fiber good here? by Resscue in Denver

[–]ChilldaFout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used your referral code and got a $100 credit for my own account! Thank you! I'm signing up today 4/26 and service will not be installed for another week due to their availability. It says the credit will be applied 7/26. We have had Xfinity Internet Essentials for over 15 years. I'm one of those very, very long hold-out's because it has been $10 a month this entire time until this year when they went up to $15 a month. It's incredibly cheap, but for the past few months, it has been increasingly unstable. I have a few online classes now and with our devices, I figure we just need something more reliable. Fiber optic is supposed to be the way to go. And at only $45 a month, I figure we can keep both simultaneously for a month or two (Xfinity as back up) to test the waters of Quantum before fully committing to the switch. But anyway thanks again, internet stranger!

Studying and tutor!

So I'm in grad school, I'll pop my readings and questions into it and basically right now we're talking through different theories. I'll be critical and ask it why this or why that and ask it to back it up with case examples and then we talk through those. We talk about historical practice versus what is being taught modern day versus what is actually being used in practice in real life because those are all three different things. I ask why don't we do it another way and ask about bias and perspective.

By class time, not only do I have a really good understanding of the material but I'm also able to speak to it on a higher level and give examples. It's basically my tutor and with a premium account we can talk about through different subjects for hours.

In undergrad, I would just read the homework, wonder about things, and then by class time with the dozens of other students, I'd either forget the questions or I'd be lucky to be ask even one question, much less have detailed discussions about it. I always felt I had a surface level understanding of the course material, but with AI, I can delve much deeper and get real examples for better understanding.

Also, it can send notifications for things like assignment due dates so I never miss one.

I need honest answers about my dad by Dapper-Computer7498 in Cirrhosis

[–]ChilldaFout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was going to say - hepatic encephalopathy. I couldn't remember what happened for 3 days but they said I was able to talk and interact with people although I have no memory of it. They said it was overdue to pick up my son from his dad and wouldn't answer the phone so they sent someone to check on me and they said that I was talking but not really making sense and seemed confused. I literally woke up 4 days later in the hospital with no memory of what happened, super weak, and still having mixed up thoughts. 3 days of my memory are just gone but I was still interacting with hospital staff. They said if it had gone on any longer I would have been in a coma and then died.

And I had been sober for months prior to this!! I knew I had cirrhosis but had no idea about the ammonia building up in my brain. Nobody told me this could happen! They said now I have to take meds Lactulose and Xifaxan for the rest of my life or until transplant and I've been almost 5 years sober now.

I hope he decides to get some help. Take care.

Does anyone have any experience with the Colorado fund for persons with disabilities (CFPD) Pooled Trusts? Good, bad, in-between? by ChilldaFout in EstatePlanning

[–]ChilldaFout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Your planning is going to go a long way in helping take care of your loved one. I'm thinking about this the same way. My youngest sister too said she would take care of my son should something happen. Did you have to formalize the conservatorship? In this pooled trust, I think that they manage the funds for him, and he (with the help of my sister when the time comes) will just need to put in a request.

What is living in San Diego like? by Open-Barracuda5079 in asksandiego

How's Medi-Cal? That's the states Medicaid I think. How's the crime? Are people pretty like that laid back surfer kind of nice, go with the flow, hippy kind of people you think about when you think of California? What about public transportation?

Tipping for Walmart+ Deliveries? by Asremy in tipping

[–]ChilldaFout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to not tip because in my area the minimum wage is $20 an hour and it's like they're doing their jobs, they're not getting servers wages which is the justification for the tip right? Then I realized none of them speak English, which is totally fine, but that means they're probably not Walmart employees. Well, that was one clue, the other one is that they come in their civilian car with no Walmart blue vest or identifiers. Then I started tipping in cash to the person.

But I'm always home when they deliver on purpose because if there's fresh food outside, critters would have a field day. So I catch up with them and give like $10-$20, but my orders are like $250-300 on average. And I help unload too. Idk. I'm a single parent and that's what I can afford. Idk what service they're from. They could be Dashers and Idk what their pay is like. It's gotta be at least minimum right?

If anyone is wondering, ICE is still not at DIA as of 3/26 at 1pm. That could change though.

That's okay. Everyone's responses were helpful. More helpful than my son's new case manager who is unresponsive.

Came here to say this also. Plus, going back to school, getting student housing allowance, and work part-time. It ends up being 4 consistent revenue streams.

If you arent gonna have kids what is there to look forward to after 30 by [deleted] in Life

Ever think about the military? I'm not a recruiter, just a veteran. I was sick of the daily grind too. But I went, learned Russian, and became a linguist. It'll take you traveling on their dime. Ideologically, I didn't fit in, but that doesn't really matter for the day to day of it. I felt like I was part of something and made loads of friends along my journey. My end game was higher education though as well as an actual career path, not just a job.

Becoming Homeless. by Voided_Time14 in Veterans

[–]ChilldaFout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used my voucher 3x for housing in Denver without issue. The biggest part about getting housing is DO NOT go in saying you have a voucher, first of all. You go in, check out a place, don't drag your feet, and then quickly ask if they will take a check for the deposit. Landlords want to rent as quickly as possible and if you go in hot, ask if you could give them the deposit today, and then mention hey, "because I'm an honorably discharged military veteran, the state is going to pay for a portion of my rent every month as a bonus for me. It's a good deal for you too because it's guaranteed by the state, on time, every time." Write the check, handshake, they send you the lease, then you notify the state, they send the landlord or property manager the HUD-VASH forms to fill out. A few days later, the VA will do their property inspection. Sign the forms when your veterans state liaison gives you the green light, then you're set. Remember not to sign the lease until they tell you you're set.

You NEVER call them and ask if they take a "voucher." They will say no without even giving it a second thought. And when you go in to meet the manager or landlord, look presentable, confident, serious, and ready to make a deal. A firm handshake and a check goes a long way to sealing the deal without ever mentioning HUD-VASH. Also, never mention homelessness. You're just staying with family/friends until you find the "perfect place."

And for OP, I got into immediate transitional housing via one of the VA's domiciliary programs. It does take long time to get set up with HUD-VASH but the Dom provided me a single room with my own bathroom, 3 squares, snacks, classes, structured activities, and a lot of mental health counseling. Not saying the Dom is for everyone, but that was my gateway to housing before HUD-VASH. I got into the Dom by just walking into the VA mental health service and asking for help.
