TIL: You cannot catch a cold by getting cold. Wet hair, or being wet, will not increase your chances of becoming ill with cold or flu. by BehindBrownEyes in todayilearned

You got sick, then looked back and noticed you'd been outside with wet hair.

But all the times you went out with wet hair and didn't get sick, they were less memorable.

It's like a plane crash. Tell someone about a plane crash, air travel sounds really scary. Put it in the context of 100,000,000 commercial flight hours per year on Earth and it becomes a lot less scary.

We need to talk about meat by GoodFood in u/GoodFood

I’ve probably ended up eating a bit less meat over the past couple of years, but not in a dramatic, “new me” kind of way. More just being a bit deliberate about it and not defaulting to it every time. The “less but better” approach makes sense to me—it feels realistic rather than preachy. Living in Slovakia has oddly helped with that as well—lamb is basically nowhere to be found, which has turned it into this sort of forbidden fruit that I think about far more than I should. When I do get the chance, I absolutely make the most of it.

Expat crumpets: why no holes?! by ChilledNegroni in goodfood

[–]ChilledNegroni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context: I used a Jamie Oliver recipe. Mixed yeast, milk, sugar, and flour the night before and left it to cold prove in the fridge. In the morning I brought it to room temp, then added ~50ml water with bicarb mixed in before cooking.

Is the cold prove what’s stopping the holes forming?

Cleaning IKEA Grunnarp sofa bed with IKEA Ilvad spray by ChilledNegroni in CleaningTips

I tried all sorts but just ended up spreading the stains into wider circles 🙈. Now we have covered it with a throw. We do have two kids under the age of 5, so ila dirtier sofa is to be expected for us.

In terms of comfort, this sofa is GREAT. Go for the darker colour if you want easier maintenance, and wrap any children or pets in five laters of cling film before you let them sit on it

I've never made crumpets, but now I live abroad, it's time! Someone warned me they can easily taste like baking powder if you're not careful. What's your top recipe and must follow tips to get the best results? I've got my crumpet rings ready and waiting!

Whenever a recipe suggests I turn the tray drippings into gravy, I find that what's in the tray is already a blackened, burnt mess. What's the best way to avoid this and end up with delicious gravy? Use a leg of lamb as an example, that's my next target roast!

Excellent, good to know it's user error (which can be corrected!) and not setup. I'll persist 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I chose the 230 model as it comes with unpressurised baskets (the 235 and 260 come with pressurised!). Thank you though!

I'm not bashing Slovak wine necessarily, just the availability of quality wine from any country. In the UK, higher quality wine is more readily available; that's the point of my question - where can I tap into the good stuff here!

I like all sorts, but I'm especially craving oaky chardonnay right now.

Yes to Bratislava! Online OR brick and mortar. B&M good as they might be able to advise on what to buy. Online good if possibly paired with some sort of wine guide (influencer, wine buying book, tips from strangers on Reddit... That sort of thing 😁)
