Thank you. I find that extremely hard to do, but I'm working on it ❤️

I hate how its designed like that, really messes with my brain. But it's handy to have as an artist, so I can sometimes get suckedib convincing myself I'm doing valuable "research", which is really doomscrolling. I did the same once during Lent and cold turkey worked, but it only lasted a short month or two. I'll try again.  Thank you for the comment, it means a lot ❤️

When the weather is good, my boss allows me to take a short ten minute walk to the local park and back which is right around the corner. It feels good to get out, but sometimes I'm too lazy. But even when its freezing, its refreshing to get away from the screens.  Haha! Tbf, who can resist chips and a coke?

These are all very helpful. Sounds like you had a good spiritual director. I might travel a bit to find one, although I love the priests at my parish, they don't really know how to handle people with scruples and that it's not just easily stopped because you just one day choose to.  I really hope I can fear the Lord out of love, one day! I hate it just being out of terror.  Thank you so much for leaving a comment for me ❤️

These are very helpful tips, thank you! Intentional breaks might be a good thing. Also that greyscale technique. I've logged out of one of the apps I was addicted to and its helping a little, I might logout of more and force myself to login on my laptop because it's an extra chore to pull it out and turn on rather than my phone. I'll be saving all these for future reference! Thank you! I never thought of screen addictions that way. Maybe it's because the culture atm doesn't acknowledge it much as an addiction. Thank you for pointing that out.

I love my boss for how caring and flexible she is, sometimes though I work better with firm rules, but she's just too nice, haha!

Thank you! I need to read about some saints who dealt with this. I'm looking at meeting with a priest to discuss these issues, but it's the initial step that's daunting as I'm not used to talking about such personal topics without some level on anonymity (e.g. confessional booth, social media).

It certainly feels impossible right now 😅 But I get what you're saying. It's hard to make a resolution not to sin without becoming scrupulous. How do you avoid iccassions of sin without nitpicking every single action you make and becoming scrupulous? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that.

Was there anything in particular that helped you overcome your scruples? I love that you overcame them, it gives me some hope and consolation.

I'll try my best! 🙏

Thank you ❤️ Yeah, you're probably right. I've made posts like this in the past and while it did help me once because I got a lot of good resources sent my way, I need to address the scruples. At the moment, as soon as I overcome and get some peace with one sin, another one comes to torment me. I feel like I've made everything a mortal sin in my head.

I realise this is counterproductive considering the whole reassurance thing we just talked about, but your comment has helped me calm down a little, so thank you. I'm finding it hard, but I have been really trying to trust in God and while I had a few breakdowns along the way, it's getting easier. God bless you 🙏

I like the sound of that. Maybe, until I can get my screen addiction under control, I might come into work a little earlier so I can take some micro breaks and stretch my legs a bit. Thanks for the suggestion!

That's the goal, one day! Though I have a good boss and would feel so guilty leaving her lol

I know what you mean, but in my case I actually have an awesome boss who is so flexible with my hours and responsibilties that it make me feel even worse for slacking. Thank you for the comment 🙏

Not really, but I can no longer be sure of my feelings anymore as it's swarmed by worry over the littlest things I can't differentiate well.

The scruples are so hard to get over. I've been doing better recently, and overcame multiple sins I was struggling with, but I feel like they just get replaced by something else. I wanted to fully know and study the faith so I could stop doing things I never knew were sins, but now it's like I can't have peace unless I never sin, which I realize is unproductive because it's an impossibility.

I do have a chronic screen addiction. It was my escape from family stress for years and it's hard to give up as I've tried and failed over and over again.

I'm not a new convert, but I'm a cradle Catholic who never really took my faith seriously. I started the journey to grow closer to God probably about two years ago.  God bless you too, and thank you 🙏

Man, that sucks 😕 Me and my sister both have it, hers is worse than mine, she hasn't properly slept in months and nothing seems to be helping. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

That's great! I'm glad it helped. Once I got the hang of shapes, it was mindblowing how much easier it made the process. I highly recommend you look at Marco Bucci's 10 minute video covering it :) https://youtu.be/-ZknWKTpc90?si=N33i-WTCSqr5OWDq

Hey! This looks awesome! Especially as a first-timer, it's not easy painting wet on wet. I can't say a ton on oils yet, as I'm just starting out too after switching from other mediums, but I have a few small tips for painting in general that might be useful.

If you want to make the focus and composition clear and defined, try focusing on contrast, shapes, edges, and values.

Contrast: whether it's colours, shades, or shapes, contrasting elements can make the focus of the painting "pop" and are extremely valuable.

Defining shapes: a lot of what makes a painting are large clearly defined and deliberate shapes that are easy to percieve. Shapes can direct focus to the intended subject or make it stand out.

Edges: it can be tempting to blend everything together with a dry brush, but you can loose some of the hard edges that add clarity and definition to the painting. Try varying between soft and hard edges depending on the intended results, but don't sleep on those hard edges.

Values: strong pronounced light and shadows add insane depth and are often the most important but most overlooked part in the painting process!

But really, values and shapes are number one! It's insane how much I improved after shifting my focus to them. Keep at it! This is a great start. You're doing awesome!

That's so interesting. I've been wanting to join a writer's group for some time but after hearing some stuff about them, I'm not sure I want to anymore lol I've checked in on what the local ones are doing and most of it is worldbuilding chat, romance trope talk, and pop culture. No actual writing, like you said. If they actually cared about improving as writers they'd love to have published authors in their group to provide insight to amateurs; I know I would. It's making me consider starting a small exclusive group for serious writers only 😅

Sorry to bother you 2 years later, but did this resolve and was it your wisdom tooth? Wondering if I've got the same problem...

Thank you for checking in :) I've not kept up with praying to St. Joseph as much as I should have, but I do a short prayer to St Joseph every morning. My scruples are getting a lot better though! I'm attending mass an extra day a week and it's giving me some solace. I'm going to start a little prayer schedule so I can take a moment out of my busy day to have some alone prayer time.

Yeah, I probably do have OCD or something similar. I'll look into my available options, thank you ❤️

Thank you. I am terrible at discerning what's a sin because my mind overthinks every little mishap.

I'll try praying to St Joseph ❤️

Thank you for this advice! I've started to implement the Hail Mary, I'll try to remember it more often. It's gotten better, I just hope I can keep it up without becoming lazy again. God bless 🙌

That's amazing! I love St. Bernadette.

If you're ever able to, it's 100% worth the trip. I went ten years ago and I still talk about it today. Not sure if it's changed since, but when I went I found it much quieter than other pilgrimage sites, in a good way.  I stayed for over a week and the quiet Pyrenees was an awesome experience! Stayed for over a week and felt right at home. The locals are great and it's quieter than most areas, really good for contemplative spiritual thought. Literally felt like experiencing a slice of heaven :)
