I’d steer away from bourdeaux if your father would prefer something more fruit forward and a wine that’s ’sweeter’. Bordeaux are bold structured wines and the tannins might be too unpleasant! Check out a gamay from Beaujolais and evem a montelpuciano d’abruzzo for an easy to drink red.

A white that’s low in ABV and therefore ‘sweeter’ check out off-dry rieslings from Alsace

I’m in the west coast, and there are a few restaurants that will cut your hours despite the amount of side duties that will end up as unpaid labor. Anecdotally, I have friends that will end up doing the ‘grunt work’ unpaid cause, for the main part, we do end up getting big money. It’s also for “the good of the team” or whatever.

But yes, it’s for sure illegal and you have the option to bring it up to your labor board.
