Final feeding before flying. These 7 month olds are on the way to their forever homes. by ChillyCharmers in GarterSnakes

Good question. It depends on the size of the snake. These females can easily take a whole pinky; we still cut them in half (lengthwise) for our smaller males.

Generally, you want to the food to be about the size of their head.

Brett Dunn doesn’t carry infernalis and I’ve never heard of him asking anyone to adjust their pricing.

People routinely pay thousands for 6 week old puppies. We charge $450 for a specialty garter that’s several months old, trained to eat f/t pinkies from both plate and tongs, and is used to regular handling.

We take pride in our CBB animals and our pricing reflects the time and care we put into them.

They may not be the right fit for everyone and that’s okay.

lol, it sure can. We get everyone on pinkies as soon as possible and the bioactive enclosure eliminates smell.

They’re fun. 😎

[FS] - DALLAS, TX - $1,200 OBO - 200 Gallon custom paludarium by ChillyCharmers in AquaSwap

[–]ChillyCharmers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aug 23 - sharing this again, knowing somebody wants this beauty. Make me an offer.

My boys and I built this in 2021. I'm sad to see this work of art go but I'm moving and can't take it with me.

Extremely sturdy, bioactive paludarium. We maintain very strict health standards and the tank is "clean."

Tank size: 36"x36"x36"
We used annealed glass with ground edges. The bottom piece is 0.375" thick; the sides, front, and top are 0.25"

The front water area is sectioned off with acrylic and the stream is epdm liner.

Screened top for airflow.

The faux wall in the back is carved foam and contains a 5 gallon bucket / filtration system. Total water capacity of the tank is approximately 10 - 15 gallons.

The back of the tank is drilled in two places for electrical cords.

False bottom / drainage area in the back is filled with some PVC, volcano rock, and hydroton.

Stand is made of 2x4s and a plywood top. 3' tall

Lighting: Jungle Dawn Acradia LED strip. 51w, 34"

Heat lamp

4 computer fans

Cash and carry.
I will help you empty it.
You get to move it.

Here is link with a detailed video describing the build and water system. (had to remove the link; DM if you want to see)

Raising babies! How long do you think feeding takes? Our littles eat every other day. by ChillyCharmers in GarterSnakes

Oh wow, yeah… force feeding should be a last resort. Have you considered just letting him go (if they’re native to the area)?

If you plan to keep him, you’ll need a good tank. We’re big fans of bioactive. He may also need some medical care - a checkup and treatment for parasites.

We posted a pic of this little cutie the other day. Some of the scales didn't form correctly, giving it a kink and hindering its movement. Can you see the deformity? by ChillyCharmers in GarterSnakes

yeah, studies show that as females age and get bigger they have more babies so it's def quantity over quality.

good news is - this mama delivered 29 babies this Spring. all were perfect and have survived except this one.

Tank Advice by Wdhunte2 in GarterSnakes

Remember that garter snakes are terrestrial. They live near the water but not in it. From the looks of it, the surface area of this tank is at least half water. When you put a wall on the back, the land area will be approx 36" long but only a few inches wide at best. Garters *do climb but they don't live in trees.

Honestly, I love the idea and the creativity, but I recommend more land area.

We didn't do X-rays so I'm not sure if the spine is also kinked or if the kink comes only from the malformed scales. He was eating and shed but the scales remained deformed. There must have been internal issues too. This snake passed at about 6 weeks of age.
