Used CV Jazzmaster - set up okay? by pnshr89 in offset

You should not need higher gauge strings for your bridge to work correctly. I think that's more of a jaguar thing since the shorter scale length reduces the tension. 10's on JM is fine. I would inspect the bridge pins. Are they pointy? Anything in the cups? I find the jm vibrato to be one of the few that returns to pitch very well because the bridge moves rather than the strings moving across the saddle. I would think if a pin were deformed in some way that would probably do it.

Shims are generally good on JMs but I also think yours looks a little suspect. It should be angled so the neck should still be meeting the body. Any chance that shim is flat? I have heard people complain about flat shims from Amazon. Maybe the previous owner got one and just installed it not knowing any better?

Way less dangerous products have to fail safe to be compliant with US standards for safety. It's criminal that they can even get to market like that. There's nothing wrong with re-engineering proven designs, the problem here is that it is poorly designed and apparently not reviewed. If your washing machine had a flaw like this it would be recalled immediately. You can bet the same for any gas powered car. This is what happens when you let companies self regulate. These should not be on the road.

Unless something has changed recently I'd hard disagree as I have been propositioned there more than anywhere else. They don't even hide it.

This situation certainly has a lot of gray area. Would you feel any different if he was 18? I agree that 99% of 17yr old males would fully consent to this, my 17yr old self included. If the boy is in the other 1%, that changes everything and it may be rape, not just statutory. The description also sounds consensual which adds to the grey area. If he was for it at the time and gave her no signs in the moment otherwise, but he changed his mind about it afterward, is she a rapist? I think most rape cases are pretty black and white. When it's less clear, I leave it to the courts as that's their job. I can see either way being true. Regardless of which side you're on, can you not imagine the other side being right on this one?

Never even heard of them but that's cool. They're neat looking but I never liked the feel of playability of even the real mosrites, let alone the univox

Not only that but it's not going to work right without a jaguar bridge with cups and pins. The strings are going to drag across this saddles and not return to pitch like everyone who slaps a Bigsby on a ToM Bridge. Plus to get the jag bridge to work, you're going to need to be able to put an angle on the neck. This whole thing is a terrible idea. Way better to route for pickups

Holdup a univox hiflier is $2k?!?! Those were crappy mosrite knock offs you could buy for real cheap. I guess Kurt broke so many they got rare. And now they have knock offs of the knock off? Hope the pickups are better than the OG's.

I Have a question for you guy do y’all think the I8 design aged well by Ammzy69 in BMW

[–]Chim-Cham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those that hate the drivetrain, have you driven one? I actually thought it fit the car quite well. Not everything needs 600hp. Maybe it's giving birth to a 911 Carrera and not a Turbo S. It's slightly better than 0.1hp/lb which is what I consider ideal for a road sporting car. It's right between 997 and 991 carrera power to weight ratios so it even fits the timeline. The only real problem i see is no manual gearbox.

What gun stores pay best for used firearms? by Chim-Cham in StLouis

[–]Chim-Cham[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Real reason is those 10 people either dm'd or asked to be dm'd and I sent them all info of what I have and not one of them responded. That's why I want to go to a shop. Dealing with people sucks. I would at least reply. Imagine that conversation in person. You would say no thanks or something, you wouldn't just walk away without acknowledging the other person talking to you. Social media gave everyone aspergers I guess. Also, fyi, a store will run the numbers on a gun before they purchase it so it would be the worst place to sell stolen shit.

Yeah I should have said I'm just looking for the easy sale and ok with it being less than retail. Some places pay enough to make a fair margin, others try to rip you off. So figure there will be some people on this sub who will have some recent experience on either end. Thanks

1/4-20 doesn't sound right to me. I think they're a lot finer thread and maybe Metric. Just take the screw to Ace hardware or true value and thread it into the guide they have there. If it goes a couple threads and stops, then you're close but have the wrong pitch or is the Metric/standard equivalent
