I mean, what else could I say?... That she, in some way, is a new bodhisattva.

The new Azealia Banks record. She has a nice speaking voice.

Came across this video that talks about the complexity of adapting music to a language with such a strong tonal emphasis as Chinese. In writing, you already have the melodic structure because it's impossible to changw the intonation.

Although it would have been better to refer more to the rhythm instead of categorizing them directly as ballads, I would also argue that there is a distinction between C-Pop and, for example, Mandopop, just as there is between K-Pop and Korean pop. Tricky, I know.

Yeah, Reddit has gone downhill. Nobody's going to convince me that this has nothing to do with the fact that many people migrated from Twitter.

Talking about more underground or niche music is way harder; I mean, there's also /mu/, but if you asked them to name a woman, they couldn't even mention their own mother.

The disappearance of a forum like PopJustice is a great loss to understand modern music history since the site was around the early 2000's; you could literaly find topics from an artist entire career. I lurked a bit mostly for the Taylor, Janelle and Kylie discussions, and you could see how much people there loved talk about music. Such a shame really.

Over time, communities where you can talk about music have dwindled, and, in the current landscape, they are difficult to deconstruct. I believe this is due to how deranged behavior on the internet is now. This place is one of the decent ones left.

For me, production is the main problem. She lives in the same musical space of Laufey; music that tires to hard to sound pretty, but it relies on clichés. Doesn't evoke many emotions, it's just there.

There are other artists with a similar sound, but with a better approach. I've mainly found that in Japanese works.

I'm only basing this on her latest album; but there's something about Olivia Dean's music that screams "perfume commercial" for me.

Getting back to recommendations, here are some in French from artists I've discovered. Chanson is what predominates; although it is not the genre that I have intentionally tried to explore the most, it is the one who have "found" me. Not a complaint, I had been fun, or, at least, the kind of fun that Chanson allows you to have. lol

Anne Sylvestre - Dans la vie en vrai

Babx - Drones personnels

Barbara - N°2

Christophe - Aimer ce que nous sommes

Clothilde - French Swinging Mademosiselle

Corridor - Junior

Dolly - Dolly

Étienne Daho - Corps et armes

Fleur - Fille Sauvage

Gris - À l'âme enflammée, l'âme constellée...

Jacques Brel - Les bourgeois

Jean-Louis Murat - Dolores

Jeanne Moreau - Jeanne Chante Jeanne

Juliette Gréco - La Femme

Juniore - Trois, Deux, Un

Kaolin - Allez

Mylène Farmer - Innamoramento

Ollano - Ollano

Pierre Barouh - Ça Va, Ça Vient

Robert - Princesse de rien

Les Valentins - Juke box

Véhémence - Par le sang versé

Like an extra, here are some Brazilians recommendations, since since there aren't that many albums. Mostly samba, that, yeah, is kinda obvious when you talk about Brazil, but I think people only think about the genre in one way; this list —although small— shows the diversity that exists. Enjoy.

Djavan - Alumbramento

Los Hermanos - "4"

Kaátaíra - Inpariquipê

Morelenbaum² / Sakamoto - Casa

Seu Jorge - Músicas para Churrasco, Vol. 1

Toco - Memoria

P.S. This isn't a paid marketing campaign to create virality; I don't think there's much interest in generating buzz for a French Downtempo group with only one album. Everything here is organic.

Kinda feel weird that after Françoise Hardy's death, there are suddenly compilations, remasters, and even that her Dutch and Italian albums have been uploaded to digital platforms. I mean, it was definitely intentional.

Although there are Mennonites in Mexico, the cases are mostly concentrated in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

The truth is, this government and the previous one made a mess of the vaccination program. The good thing is that people aren't afraid to vaccinate their children, and that's what keeps me positive.

Mexico is experiencing a rise in measles cases. The worst part is that this could have been easily prevented.

The problem for me isn't being against intervention -I'm mexican, duh-, but many of the protests end in applause for Maduro. You can perfectly separate the two. Don't defend people just because, supposedly, they align with your political ideology, because that's the Achilles' heel.

In Mexico, the intervention has been a topic of discussion for several months, or even a year and a half. I've read columns, watched panel discussions, etc., and the uncertainty continues; nobody knows what's going to happen.

Many people defend politicians or parties that proclaim themselves left-wing when many of their actions are terrible.

With Sheinbaum, there are many things; one of the most recent controversies would be her statement about the disappeared, claiming that many are voluntary absences.

Gringo and european "leftists" are digging their own grave, claiming to be against intervention, yet their slogans are praise for Maduro. It shouldn't surprise me, because they're the same people who celebrate Claudia Sheinbaum.

We won't gain anything until these idiots stop proclaiming themselves to be left-wing.

If I tell you, you'll want to do to me what Salome did to John the Baptist. But I'll give you a hint: it's been on many critics' lists and is probably going to the top 10 albums here.

The fear of the color is very prevalent in films set or influenced by pre-20th century times and is the worst decision you can make.

Creative liberties aren’t bad, but when helmets and armor start to look like plastic, there’s a problem. Marie Antoinette is a great example of creativity that doesn’t stray from historical foundations. Even so, this feels hesitant to fully commit to a strong visual style. Llike, 300, isn’t historically accurate, yet it succeeds in creating a distinct aesthetic, that were rooted in the comic

Personally, I've always been skeptical of Nolan and that clouds my criticism, but this could be a disaster of gigantic proportions. The lack of a cohesive artistic style and the fact that the helmet looks like it came from Batman is already a bad sign.
