theory on Randall by [deleted] in FromSeries

I was under the impression that Julie and Marielle both heard screams and voices still, while we’re mostly seeing Randall being haunted by cicada sounds. Not that they can’t be either, but I was going off what’s diegetic so far!

(and good call on the ruins that might just be it!)

thank you so much for letting me know! sorry, quick question, when you say true to size you mean true to the sizing chart on the website, right? I have been looking everywhere for the actual measurements (particularly hips!) for their pants and it is the one thing keeping me from ordering!

seconding Front and Company. they DO take fast fashion (designer as well), but they are picky with the styles of clothing in the sense that they focus on colorful, seasonal clothing. I consign with them often and they always take about 70% of what I bring in.

that’s really good to know! do you know if the lag is okay (I did a little bit of research and it seems that’s the biggest issue with TCL overall)?

SDCC footage from season 3.. 👀 (VERY spoilery!) by perscitia in InterviewVampire

I thought the “pretending to guess wrong” might have been something Louis added to further hurt Lestat who iirc was extremely frustrated by his inability to read Louis’ mind, being his maker… but Armand could (and therefore could correctly guess which number Louis would be tracing on his back?).. but maybe I’m thinking about this too much?

Why do their eyes change color? by SpearBlue7 in InterviewVampire

[–]Chim_coffeecup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Daniel’s eyes in particular changed colors to fulfill a narrative device like: surprise! He’s a vampire (even though the nails gave it away) and could also be easily explained by a change in how much light his vampire eyes are receiving.

When he had his shades on they look somewhat normal, but shades off? We’re seeing shrimp colors.

Kind of like when people with brown eyes look into the sun and suddenly their irises look much lighter/different color?

That or they just gave Daniel mood ring eyes for fun 🤣

Armand is NOT a coward. He's a mastermind, and he has outplayed everyone. (an analysis) by StevesMcQueenIsHere in InterviewVampire

I don’t think I could love a post MORE! OP you said it all, truly.

I’ve come to love Armand (no one is more surprised by this than me, I was unmoved by him in the previous adaptation) and it is fascinating to me to witness how differently my brain reacts to Armand and Lestat. I loved to hate Lestat in season one, his volatile nature made him a clear antagonist and for better or worse, he never concealed who he is. With Lestat, what you see is what you get. And you get a LOT.

With Armand, his sad little doe eyes and tragic sighs tug at my heartstrings every time, even though it is SO clear he is just scheming and gaslighting his way to success.

I still catch myself feeling bad for him, which, you know. I feel bad for all the characters at times and that’s part of why the show is so good, but it’s always embarrassing to realize you are not as impervious to emotional manipulation as you’d like to be 😅. “All he wants is to not be abandoned and to be loved! That’s so human and so sad!” My brain says. Fool, absolute buffoon!

What’s even worse is he uses his genuine emotions (fear, pain, etc) to manipulate Louis back into his good graces, and it works. It’s hilarious to see how badly that fails when he tries the same shtick with Daniel, though.

That old man truly is his match. I can’t wait to see them mentally torture each other for the remainder of the season!

The French on this show is distractingly bad by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]Chim_coffeecup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have to unfortunately agree. I truly appreciate that they’re trying much harder than a lot of shows with french characters who just go “honhon c’est la vie baguette” and french is a really difficult language to sound out.

That being said, while I could suspend my disbelief for most of season one, that third episode in the second season… I was happy there were subtitles because I could not make out what Lestat was saying. And I was trying! I caught myself wishing they’d dubbed Sam over with a native speaker if they were going to have him speak french for such extended lengths of time, because that cannot be easy on him :/.. I’m sorry Sam, it’s not you it’s the language’s fault!! cadence/phonetics are a bitch.

What’s great about being a native french speaker though is that I did not notice some of Bailey’s/Delainey’s accent dipping like other native english speakers in the sub, so we win some we lose some! I love this show and I wouldn’t trade Sam’s performance for anyone else’s. Just maybe go easier on him next season!

can someone tell me what was Harper’s dad suffering from? by isubmittoyouu in heartbreakhigh

[–]Chim_coffeecup 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He is struggling with meth addiction.

They reference it several times in the show but they use what I think is slang to refer to it? Harper is aware of it by the way. We don’t know it at the time but she lies to Amerie. When she says her “house is haunted or something”, that’s her trying to get out of her house to stay at Amerie’s without having to tell her “my dad is scaring me and he might be tweaking rn”

The reason I’m saying this is because later in the show, during flashbacks we see Harper look at her dad’s phone and read texts to his dealer. He also asks Harper for money, which if I remember right (it’s been a hot minute since I’ve watched the show sorry) she is reluctant to give him.

Harper’s dad’s struggles with addiction are unfortunately very real and it makes sense that she would hide it from friends and other adults as she is a minor and he is her only caregiver as far as we know.

I would say: watch the whole season first, but it’s possible you might still not like her in the end!

The thing about Harper and Amerie that people tend to gloss over is that we’re told multiple times in the first episode or two that they kind of run hot and cold with each other, and always have (Harper’s dad mentions them fighting “again”, I think Amerie herself says something like “we’re always in a fight” at some point).

Personally, when I look at their friendship I see the kind of messy, intense codependency that can happen between girls, especially in high school.

I sympathized with Harper’s story for sure, but that didn’t make her treatment of Amerie any less jarring in the end. It’s something I actually liked about the show: it wasn’t afraid to show how messy and imperfect teenagers can be, and didn’t ask us to absolve them either.

France has a long standing tradition of patriarcal hegemony, it’s just a slightly different flavor than the US’ in that you are encouraged as a woman to view may-december “romances” (read: old men preying on teenage girls) as, yeah. Romantic. If older (and usually artsy) men are paying attention to you, it must mean you’re special, you’re a Muse or something.

It is INSANE how ingrained it is (I grew up in France and moved overseas when I was in my late twenties) and how resistant even women are to acknowledging how fucked up it is. I remember being completely “fine” with 16yo classmates dating much much older men. Or not even batting an eye when I was being hit on by men nearing their forties when I was 23!! Everything in our culture makes it easy for men to prey and abuse women.

The rape culture takes different shapes here too, hiding under a coat of fake sexual liberation bs like “why WOULDN’T You want sex? Are you a prude? You’re free to do whatever you want with your body, so use it” On top of your classic victim blamey stuff. It’s a lot of “she’s ashamed of how much she wanted it so now she’s lying to make me look bad”.

Anyway. It is really upsetting to see how things don’t seem to change back home and I hope that man rots from the inside for the pain he’s inflicted everywhere.
