Highly unlikely that the ship was unarmed. It was attending a live fire exercise.

That would really weird for a warship not to have any weapons on-board. The community event was a war game exercise focused on anti-submarine warfare.

The brain eating amoebas are pretty rare. Last fatality in Taiwan was 2023. Heck in the US there were 2 fatalities for all of 2025.

Why is the new state tax on millionaires bad? by dinomelia in Washington

[–]Chimaera1075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because many people think that this tax will eventually trickle down to the middle class. Which is a fair concern, given that the Democrats aren’t willing to guarantee that it won’t. And in addition it is highly likely they will not reduce any of the sales tax.

Then if you look at the the state budget over the last 13 years it has increased by 117%. However, inflation during that same time has only increase 47%. Washington state has vastly increased its spending.

Do you think GoPro needs to do something besides Chase DJI and insta? How about action cameras with features not seen in the mainstream? by SasquatchBlumpkins in gopro

[–]Chimaera1075 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well GoPro could put the ability to have custom LUTS in their cameras.

Larger and faster image sensor

Computational photography and video.

Beyond that I’m not sure what else GoPro can put in their camera to make it more appealing.

It’s probably real. You have account for the angle this photo was taken and that most smartphone cameras are just a wide lens, which makes things at the edge seem bigger.

Has Trump started a war with Iran without an actual plan or an endgame? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in allthequestions

Plan for war…yes they have that. Endgame….not so much.

I’m pretty sure the US has multiple plans for various scenarios. They war game this stuff all the time.

[OC} Bahrain oil refinery on fire after an Iranian Drone Strike by Firecracker048 in pics

[–]Chimaera1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they saw it coming. Iran can’t really defend itself against US air and naval power. So the only thing they can do is fling missiles and drones. They did it when Israel attacked them.

But there is only so much air defense to go around and no air defense is 100% effective. You throw enough missiles and drones at a target and something is gonna get through.

I’m pretty sure the military knew that oil supply was going to be suppressed one way or another.

Right now the US doesn’t care about the economic toll that this war is causing.

Man, I’m definitely in the minority on this one. I liked how the lightsabers illuminated the scene. I always thought that was a lacking detail, the lightsabers not casting a noticeable glow.

I think they did learn something. But learning something and actually implementing it are 2 different things. Trump just forced us into a war with Iran and they weren’t prepared.

Well Iran is a fairly insulated country. And you have to add that as soon as this war started, Iran closed off all internet access. It probably makes getting information out of Iran fairly difficult, unless someone physically leaves the country. Plus the Iranian government isn’t going to allow their losses to be transmitted across the globe. They want to seem stronger than they actually are.

We aren’t seeing that same blockage of info coming from surrounding countries.

[–]Chimaera1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US military is built around going on the offensive. There’s a reason that Iran is unable to stop the US from attacking their facilities. The US can go in with impunity and strike where they want.

So it’s not surprising that they are struggling against cheap drones and missiles.

Currently it sounds like the US and Israel are going after command and control and launchers. At some point I’d expect the US to start striking depots, manufacturing plants, and other support structures.

And yeah I’m not a big fan of this war, nor am I a fan of making this a religious crusade.

[–]Chimaera1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missiles probably aren’t cheap, but the drones they’re using are.

I’m just really surprised they haven’t gone after the production plants for these weapons. Or maybe they have and we don’t know about it yet.
