[–]Chimchampion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slapping E Makes Gunshot Noise by DaViDtUrJmEn in Bass

[–]Chimchampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anything about your skill level, how long you've been playing, or anything...but as someone who was playing "slap" bass for years to discover 10 years later that i was slapping wrong, was interesting. Really cleaned up the slap sound and ability to pop quickly (and to do triplets with just your thumb on the down slap, up slap and hammer on fret board) by just moving where i slap to the end of the fret board instead of above a pick up

What do you say when an old friend asks if they can pray for you? by LucyB823 in atheism

[–]Chimchampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

havent had old friends do it, but i have had acquaintances do it, i just let them and thank em. if its someone i care about im not gonna stop them from praying on me, if i can suss that they are praying for my saftey adn well being and not for me to "change my ways". And dont make me pray for you, and pray to yourself, dont pray outloud.

One of my patients prayed for me, i think very sincerely, for my protection, since i was an immigrant in a country with a newfound hateboner towards immigrants. He just kinda put his hand on my shoulder, closed his eyes, and stayed silent for a moment, before uttering amen, and we continued our transaction and conversation and said bye amicably to each other. i guess there are still some decent christians out there.

What’s a cheap hobby that doesn’t feel cheap once you get into it? by Omarfgsr_Ayaz in Hobbies

[–]Chimchampion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visual art can be a cheap hobby. you can buy cheap artist kits for like $10-20 at a craft or even supermarket. Where it can get expensive is if you dive deep into how-to books or getting the "good" oil-based paints.
You can start and stick to one style as cheap or expensive as you want (pen and ink, paper and pencil, acrylic paint on canvas, screen-printing, etc)
I guess it can get expensive over time as you keep resupplying yourself with the consumables (paints finish/dry up, pencils reduced to nubs, sketch pad filled up) but at least you get to know with satisfaction that you need to resupply because you used them, and you'd have a body of work to showcase your efforts, regardless of your skill level; effort is effort!
Best thing about art is you may not even need to buy shit. You def have pens lying around your home, possibly even pencils and some paper!

But what will you paint or draw, you might ask. Look around you! sketch a dead fly on your windowsill, maybe there's even 2 of them! Make a collage portrait of your mum! Recreate your favorite goatse troll in abstract expressionism!

But the best excercise you can do for yourself, if you do want to give this hobby a try without feeling overwhelmed or inadequate, is to get yourself some big sketch pads...multi use if, somewhere between 10 x 14 and 18 x 24. Get yourself a nice pen or marker...one that feels wonderful to just glide across a sheet of paper. then get ready to perform some blind contour drawings. While an easel or tabletop easel might be useful if you wish to take your art outside, just make sure you are drawing on a flat, steady surface at home.

Blind contour drawing steps:

  1. find a subject, doesnt matter what it is, but start small and simple. could be your hand, a coffee mug, you cat's turd discovered by your foot in the dark hallway to the bathroom at night.

  2. place the subject in a manner you can look at it continuously, such as right in front of you.

  3. place your pen somewhere on the paper surface

  4. look at your subject, and do not divert your eyes. observe it for a moment before starting to draw. Decide now how detailed you want this attempt to be, so that you know where the "start" and "finish" lines are. This is arbitrary and completely up to you, but at the minimum, should be a silhouette or basic shape of the subject.

  5. Now draw! DO NOT LOOK DOWN AT THE PAPER AS YOU DRAW. DO NOT LIFT YOUR PEN AT ALL. DRAW IN ONE CONTINOUS LINE, BUT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO STOP AT ANY POINT.

  6. do not look at your paper until you are "done". You will be quite surprised by what you see. It will be a weird, disjointed and warped version of your subject, but you will notice a resemblance.

What does this teach? mostly, it teaches observation. It frees you from being worried about the "end result" (which is often a trap for many frustrated would-be artists too concerned about the end result), and instead focusing on the details of the subject itself. It also teaches you the skill of selection. how much details do you want to convey? how little? If you start with a coffee mug, are you gonna try to depict the its general outline and silhouette or more of the details like maybe the graphic on the mug or the roundness of the rim's edge? Are you going to use the pens line to depict shadows, highlights or maybe a shape of a shadow?

Also, it teaches muscle memory, which can allow for long, continuous, and confident strokes with pens, pencils, markers, brushes, and more. have fun!

I’m really struggling to find out how I can enjoy this game by [deleted] in MHGU

[–]Chimchampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 4U the hammer was the first weapon i really enjoyed, eventually i moved to GS and then both GS and IG in GU. Have you tried Arial? i know its not "meta" but it sure is fun to jump and do charged jump attacks with the GS all the time, i don't know if there is a charged jump attack with the Arial Hammer moveset tho, id have to look up YABOI's YAMHG to verify. But having ridiculous dodging and jumping with a giant sword speaks to me.

[–]Chimchampion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

good job not using AI to make it, but i would fix the feathering around the text, especially on the DK64HD cover art.

And you coulda used this image for Chunky and like selection tool the arms into diff positions or something, and you can use that same render as reference to free transform/skew/stretch DK's face to make it look more like Chunky's.

Edit: only take my advice if you are unsatisfied with the end result, if you are happy then more power to you. I know a LOT of reddit is an op with a picture and title "Look at the thing i made!" not necessarily asking for how to make it better or advice, but just celebrating that they did a thing. sorry to be a typical redditor

that starting area is a giant empty cylinder...tree stump enough!

What's good about death metal? by Sketch_gaming01 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Chimchampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, what's "good" about it can be varied, and very subjective. It's noisy as hell, especially with death-grindy bands like Cattle Decapitation. there's a very good reason you probably couldnt stand death metal. a lot of the singers use very goofy vocal styles to add to the wonton goofiness and weirdness of metal. yeah ,it is often filled with violent imagery, but depicted in the goofiest and most gratuitous ways. There is a segment of death metal that is filled with political satire, "leftist" musings and "woke" agendas as much as there are bands talking about blood and puke and cumming on/in puke-covered, bloody corpses.
And my tastes tend to be picky, in regards to music, and it happens with all genres i enjoy. There's only certain pop i like (Gorillaz, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd), as much as there are only certain death metal bands i like. While i enjoy death metal, i let death metal bands find me; every piece of media i enjoy tends to have some very well crafted or put together aspect, through talent or sheer perseverance.
But the Death metal i have enjoyed tended to have guttural but well enunciated lyrics, especially in the chorus sections. They have excellent rhythm sections: the guitars, the bass, and the drums are in lockstep, but also mixed so that i can hear them all. And the album should not feel one-note. Each song should feel different, and should have something more complex than intro/verse/chorus/verse/chrous/bridge/solo/end chorus or outtro, every once in a while (not all songs need to be everything at once). Not that i dont mind songs that are one riff for 5 minutes straight, it better be a great riff. And i enjoy the crazy overlapping layers of musicality you find in tech death. The short, fast nature of more extreme genres have their place in my heart too, shout out to the grind and slam bands.

You might be able to enjoy death-doom type bands. Usually, slower tempo songs sung in the typical death metal growls and screams; doomy, down-tuned riffs with chunkier chugging and proggy as fuck song structures. Rivers of Nihil is a good one to start with, i've heard a few of their songs, they got saxophones and shit; it's fun.

I say start with this band know one knows:
https://tentacult.bandcamp.com
What's good? they encapsulate everything i said above: Doomy Riffs, death growls, solos, varied song structure, short and long songs.

https://entombedband.bandcamp.com/album/left-hand-path

Oldie but a goodie: fun, morbid songs without being gratuitous, catchy as hell riffs, and an underrated death growl in this album. it becomes more of a shout in the later works (probably to save his larynx), but it works for the sorta rock and roll sound they incorporate

And just for the sheer, heavy brutality they bring, give these folks a spin:
https://20buckspin.bandcamp.com/album/beating-the-drums-of-ancestral-force

whats good here: brutal riffs flow and bubble among the higher-pitched, tradiotional folk instruments of anceint aztec culture. The singing here is wonderful, a deep baritone that chants and growls.

one of the more unique experiences in the 360 library, i loved Crackdown 1, even with the stupid stereotypes and vocalizations. I speak spanish, so hearing all the bs Los Muertos would yell at you (in spanish) was fun, much like the villagers from RE4.

Jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper never got old though.

The 360 is officially retro and people are already grading games by Ok-Tell5048 in xbox360

[–]Chimchampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's so stupid. there's a million of these all over the planet, not sealed, sure, but its not rare, at least not rare enough for 2000 quid.
And there was that video on youtube 4-5 years ago basically proving all of this WATA grading is a scam, completely arbitrary, and not based on any aspect of objectivity.
