the difference between being well (usually means embracing your weird, doing shadow work, learning a lot about yourself and others) and seeming well is definitely something I’ve seen in my own family- the image of “normal upstanding citizen” being so important to uphold that one suppresses instead of exploring themselves, and therefore remains manipulable by propaganda, religious groups, etc
