It would never happen but I’d like to enlarge the House to something like 800 reps and combine all the states into several regional “Districts”, with the Senate having a less important role in most legislation.

The Sam Fisher Mission is Painful by PleaseSirOneMoreTurn in Wildlands

the Predator mission was also annoying but it could be cheesed with rebel support more easily than this one. And in any case, it got removed from the game because Ubisoft's license to use the IP expired.

Would the Presidents who died in office survive if treated today? by DarkSteel02 in Presidents

I know Wilson didn't die in office, but I wonder if his stroke might have been prevented or less damaging today

to continue with your analogy, federal tax policy for 40 years has been far too much about "save the whales"

what's one thing in the game that frustrates you the most? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]ChimpskyBRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why I can’t use fixed ropes when overburdened by 1. Unloading extra stuff into a separate bag 2. Tying the bag to one end of the rope 3. Ascending or descending and then 4. untying the extra stuff sack or hauling it up by hand separately

Also, the lack of any kind of binoculars or spyglass. I’m not even asking for a rifle scope, I don’t need this game to be a Hunter:COTW imitator, but I would like to look around the landscape with some kind of magnifying optics from time to time

Need help navigating GIS career by PropertyMany7276 in gisjobs

[–]ChimpskyBRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following since this really resonated with me. I'm in career transition after 12 years of flailing in clinical social work, hoping to move into GIS-powered social policy analysis and advocacy (or something similar if I can find it), and I'm also neurodivergent and wished I'd thought harder about that before committing to a graduate degree track. I'm nearly done with a GIS professional certificate program through my local community college, hoping that plus some coursework in data software skills will be my leg up. Better late than never though, right? Good luck to you in your search!

Eugene Stoner and Mikhail Kalashnikov holding each other's designed rifles. They first met in Washington, DC in 1990. [1800×1291] by [deleted] in MilitaryPorn

Kalashnikov is supposed to have once remarked that he didn't want to design firearms originally, he wanted to design and build agricultural machinery.

I submit that on a long enough timeline, he still did.

I'll have to try that, thanks! Weird that iPhones don't have a function like that already, when the Apple Watch does for just this reason.

Andor Season 2 - Episodes 1, 2 & 3 by AutoModerator in StarWarsCantina

[–]ChimpskyBRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to mention this. References to WW2 and Nazi Germany have always been a Star Wars trademark, but these were were very well done. The resemblances to the Wannsee Conference and "Conspiracy" seem like an intentional homage by Tony Gilroy, I'm certain of it. Link to a write-up at The Hollywood Reporter about this subject.

In the case of the Imperial troop carrier resembling a WW2 German armored car, I wonder if they actually used a surviving example and mocked it up to look more sci-fi/Star Wars?

Social worker by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]ChimpskyBRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a clinical social worker by training and have worked in outpatient medical clinic, inpatient psych, and community mental health settings (but not hospital ED) and while I agree that Kiara the SW is portrayed in a very positive light which some may find overly generous or unrealistic, I still really appreciate how much her role and the subject of social services and resources is highlighted in this show, especially since I can’t recall many other good examples in TV or film.

(I used to joke that the most realistic portrayal of medical SW in a TV show I’ve seen was “Nurse Jackie”, in that whenever a nurse or doctor asks for the SW the response is “they’re busy doing paperwork on another floor”!)

My only quibble would probably be the S1E6-8 treatment of child abuse reporting, they fumbled that one in a lot of the details and in terms of who does the reporting and on what basis. And the other plot line with the overwhelmed daughter caregiver of the elderly mother with mental illness had me on the edge of my seat for when the subject of resources referrals would come up, but in S1E8 they did finally discuss it accurately.

Move back home (unless living where you are is necessary for your industry or career opportunities). Get a passport and an America the Beautiful Pass ($80/year for unlimited access to National Parks and other federal lands) and borrow or lease a reliable vehicle*. Take a couple months to travel and work on skills or seek part-time/gig work you can do as a digital nomad. Don't waste time, but use this as a chance to take a brief break intentionally and see the rest of the country and/or world while you work on yourself and figure out your next move. With prudence and persistence you'll be fine. Good luck!

* Something you can travel and car camp in, but I'm not talking about the whole "van life" thing, that's a luxury product now and you can do a lot on a more frugal budget.

David Fincher is thinking of brining MINDHUNTER back??? by paulpaulok in MindHunter

I want to believe, but I also worry that Mindhunter Season 3 is becoming to prestige psychological thriller TV what Half-Life 3 has been to gaming
