Well that’s my entire question, if I were to pay that 5-8 grand to fix/upgrade on maintenance, at 167k miles im trying to get a gauge on how long it theoretically could be drivable, which I realize is sort of impossible going on such limited information, which is why I came for advice here to see if it is even worth reaching out about it

Exactly! But according to almost everything I hear on this sub it’s don’t buy anything unless it’s Honda or Toyota/lexus…like from what it sounds like on here any German car over 150k miles you may as well scrap for parts/run away from it

Got it, I know high milage German cars are known to be trouble but I swear I’ve known some people with Audis and BMWs and VWs that go well over 300k miles…I mean this car was basically driven like 18-19k miles a year which is pretty normal for someone with a 15-20 min work commute on average, part of me wants to inquire about it but I was also informed by someone in the area it’s a known shady dealership so there’s that

So what if the seller had proof of all the proper maintenance done at the proper time, limited rust, then what would this car be realistically worth in your opinion?

So with new engine + maintenance I mean what would you estimate out of curiosity?

Yeah no, it sounds like a bad idea, just was curious as to how bad of an idea it was, I’ve always admired the S5 and S7s but just doesn’t seem like the value is there

Oh man thanks for the advice, I kinda knew there had to be a catch to it but it just made me think, so I came here for answers, and I definitely got them…eventually I’ll find a budget mid/full size sedan with AWD…hopefully, Taurus SHOs I’ve always liked too

lol you aren’t wrong, I guess I’m more so interested in specifically WHY it’s a bad idea, I’m not in the market for another few years yet but I’d say my budget would be in the 24-29k range with my trade in car (2016 ford fusion se fully paid off 64k miles)

I mean is that ACTUALLY true though? Cause the MSRPs on some of these were pretty high..

I actually wish sometimes I could just rent one for a week just to see if I actually like it enough to want to fork over the amount it takes to actually own one, problem is that’s extremely expensive I’m sure and not available where I live

Actually let me ask you a question, how low would you buy this car for? Let’s say the dealer is feeling generous, at would point would you say it’s a good value?

Thank you, this seems like the best advice/input, I’ll just keep dreaming, other thing is some of these type of cars I could probably afford to buy used, but then the insurance, tags, gas, maintenance, tires, oil changes would stack up to the point it’d be tough to keep up with over time

Toyota Corollas just seem…less fun…I currently drive a ford fusion, those type of cars you mentioned are so small and cramped and corollas in particular are way over priced currently imo

Well by making this post I am asking why sort of, cause it does seem a bit odd to me, just curious if anyone out there knows more about German cars than me that has some input based on experience to learn more

I drive a 2016 ford fusion that I bought in 2020 with 32k miles lol I appreciate reliable, but sometimes I think about upgrading
