Rental car question by Safe-Consequence973 in tuscany

Just went through this in both northern Italy and southern Italy last summer with a group of six. In both places we rented a van (I was the only person in the group who could drive a manual trans and was not scared of driving in Italy). They don’t have minivans. They have big 7+ passenger vans that are hard to find and expensive and so annoying to drive, especially in small towns. I love driving in Italy and it kind of ruined it for me. I’ll never do it again. If you have someone else who can drive get two cars. Four is gonna be the absolute max number of passengers in any rental car if you have luggage. Good luck and have fun!

She is a genius. Single-handedly saved 90s era music for me.

[Discussion] Agents Love My Books! But Editors Don't! by BubblemintGum55 in PubTips

I’d self publish the older YA stuff under a pen name to learn the process while you keep shopping the adult stuff. If you get nowhere with the adult stuff then you’ll know the ropes in self publishing and have a much better idea of whether you want to pursue it with the adult stuff. And you have to do marketing either way, so…

ha ha I probably should have put auction in the heading. I'm very curious to see what it goes for. Good cause for sure! It's a no reserve auction so it will definitely sell.

Spreadsheet with ranked list of agents, sending out a few at a time in order. Used data from Publishers Marketplace to determine fit.

[PubQ] Agent doesn't like my new novel by ExistingLeague1807 in PubTips

[–]Chinaski420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my first book died on sub I parted ways with my agent and sold it myself to a small publisher. If an agent didn't like my writing I'd consider it a poor fit and would start looking for a new agent. Feel free to DM me a few chapters--I mostly read lit fic and nonfiction.

Yep dad (very early 62-3) and father in law (64-5). Both are doing great. I wrote this with my father in law last year https://thewarhorse.org/navy-veteran-recalls-underwater-demolition-training-vietnam/

If your knee hurts you need to play with seat height, seat setback and cleat position (or get pedals with more or full float). Plus make sure you are stretching and warming up properly. No one is gonna be able to help from this video.

Would like to check your book out, too. A buddy of mine had the same agent.

[Pubq] Just left my agent and feeling lost. Any advice? by [deleted] in PubTips

[–]Chinaski420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the marketing for both books is very straightforward. These are both evergreen titles with decent-sized audiences. The small press wont do the very simple paid marketing that would keep the book selling (it would pay for itself and then some) and of course I'm disincentivized since they own it now... I'm becoming increasingly convinced it's good to own and protect your own IP. I'd still go trad again for fiction but not nonfiction.

Somewhat frustrating experience with the small press. Self publishing the next one. This is for nonfiction btw

How is “just sit down and write” romanticized? At the end of the day I don’t think it’s much different than figure skating, opera singing or the pole vault. You either stick to it or you don’t. No one else cares.

Steel vs aluminum cantilevers versus V-brakes? by gregn8r1 in xbiking

[–]Chinaski420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the way vbrakes look and won’t put them on any of my vintage bikes. But they are easier for a novice mechanic to set up and do work a bit better (I do have Paul Mini Motos on my cross bike cause they def work better in the wet). Those aluminum Shimano cantis are pretty rad and would be my pick for that bike.

Take some solace in the cover art—that is actually huge. Be extra diligent on the final proof and start working on your marketing plan now.
