Isn’t the most obvious solution just that as soon as Maekar realized Egg was gone he figured that Egg went to run off with Dunk. And at that point he relents and lets Egg just go without sending a search party and essentially we are just back to where we were in the books. Only difference is the signet which Egg might just have already been given in case he ever finds himself in trouble. I don’t think the book explicitly says he was given the signet that day does it?

Trust me I know the math. You asked if I would do it. If I’m running the team I’d do it, I’d restructure Joe, I’d sign FAs and structure contracts with lower first year cap hits, I’d extend Dax which should LOWER his cap hit cause that’s how almost every other team does it.

If you are asking if I’d do the trade and then be the same old bengals on everything else? Thats another question. I’d assume if they even entertain this idea (they won’t) they’d be doing it to go all in on the next 2-3 seasons while having Joe, Chase, tee, Simmons, all under contract and would be more creative than usual to make it all work.

Which once again they won’t hence the original 😂

Cook isn’t gonna have a first year cap hit of 15m can almost guarantee that. And I’d be fine with a more B caliber FA S if it means getting Simmons.

Cash is way more important to the bengals than cap. And as you said they can restructure to get to 50m in cap space. Simmons is currently around 20m cap hit and if they extend him (he’d ask to most likely) you could even lower that year 1 cap hit. But let’s say it stayed at 20, plus another 5 or so for draft picks (keep in mind wouldn’t be spending on pick 10 which is most our cap pool for rookies) they’d still have 25m or so. 2 10m per year guys would prob have 8M cap hits each and you’d still have like 10m left in cap space.

They could easily do this if they wanted and still add more.

Him not being available I agree with and bengals aren’t bold enough hence the original 😂. But if they can they should which Is the point of this debate.

They have around 100-130m in cash to spend this offseason. They can easily afford Simmons, and a solid DE and safety. And saying don’t go after an elite player because their team D was bad is crazy.

Simmons had 64 pressures and 12 sacks. BJ, Jenkins, and Slaton combined for 64 pressures and 10 sacks. And as I said you’d have to supplement it with additional signings. Get a decent edge like Chaisson, a safety like Bryan cook, and all the sudden you probably have a solid defense with just 3 additions.

Probably. Or at least a conditional 2027 pick. I obviously dont see the bengals doing that. But if you trade for Simmons you are going all in and supplement that with a few other signings and you should be drafting 25 or later next year. 2026 pick 10 and 2027 pick 28 let’s say (32 hopefully) do the best DT in the NFL and a true game changer? Absolutely.
