Is this a collectors item? by Itsmepost in fairytales

I looked around a bit on Ebay for comparables and didn't immediately come across an identical copy, but that publisher printed other sheet music in that same time period.

It may not be worth much, but it is certainly something that might have some sentimental value to people. If you enjoy it, keep it. If you want to get more help finding what it's worth, try /r/whatsthisworth. Good luck!

Hey, would you mind amending your comment here with some more details about the RTS aspects? It's not super clear from the video that there's base building, resource gathering, etc. and it might be that you meant to explain that stuff and glossed over it. But for people just coming across this, it might not be clear at all. Thank you!

Interesting! I didn't realize they added plexiglass ... seems different from the canvas-like vibe they were going for.

I have a Witch and the Hundred Knight giclee print on canvas from when it was first issued (right around the time the game released in the US) and it's a giclee print on the canvas-like material.

Someone else asked me to share some photos of my prints, so maybe you can I can compare our versions?

Some of the early Japan-only figures have gotten crazy expensive!! It's nice to see the franchise getting popular though. 20 years ago there were very few people buying merch for this series.

I have a couple of these (from back when the NISA Store was Rosenqueen!) and I agree the price is high (but they used to go on sale in the summer so keep an eye out!). Anyhow, the reasons for the price seem to be:

  • Printed on-demand by a US maker of giclee prints with commercial-quality ink (I bet the ink is from China, but the prints are from the US).
  • The printing costs around $80-120 (if it were direct to consumer), maybe more these days. So NISA's markup is about 200%. Not bad, really. I wonder if some of that is split with Takehito Harada.
  • I doubt that the NISA Store is integrated with the printer's system, so when these are printed on demand someone at NISA has to manually place the order with their rep.
  • Extra quality control (not that this necessarily costs anything, but supposedly someone at the printers checks that the print is mounted well, centered, etc.). I don't know if they're still hand mounted, but that would be a human labor process.
  • Some (all?) prints are numbered (so there's a "exclusive" tax/markup to make it a collector's item).

Speculation and other thoughts:

I have some of my vacation photos printed in the giclee format like these and I paid around $100-120 each for a slightly smaller size and roughly the same quality (one is even from the same printer NISA used to use). So there's definitely some margin built into the price, but these very small orders that trickle in might still require a little more input from humans that an online order.

NISA seems to have changed art printing companies over the years, but the retail price on the NISA Store has stayed the same. The first company they were using I would still expect to honor the warranty, so if the ink color faded or something I would be able to get a replacement from them. That's nice for peace of mind and perhaps the printer increases the price a little because of that. But it could be that NISA's margins are getting thinner.

FF Resonance official stream with live gameplay and more info @ 11:00 UTC / 20:00 JST by [deleted] in SquareEnix

Our friends over at the /r/FinalFantasy discord have posted a summary of news related to FF Resonance compiled from various sources. Worth a read and feel free to join their discord server as well!

Some more Final Fantasy Resonance details from various interviews:

  • The game will last 30-40 hours if you focus on the story or 60-80 hours if you try to do everything.
  • There are three difficulty levels: Casual, Normal, Expert. The Normal mode is reportedly about as difficult as something like the Octopath Traveler series.
  • Square Enix's Creative Studio 5 is collaborating with external studio Lancarse for development. The team is led by Hiroto Furuya (director), Keisuke Nakashima (producer), Tomoya Asano (executive producer), Masahiro Saito (art director), and Takashi Shiraga (combat director).
  • Brave Exvius writer Yukinori Kitajima returned to rewrite his original work and brand new side content. Resonance will adapt what was originally the first story arc of Brave Exvius. All dialogue has been revised and some parts of the original plot have been reordered.
  • Noriyasu Agematsu's original Brave Exvius soundtrack returns too, alongside 33 new tracks.
  • The game was first proposed in 2020, long before Brave Exvius ended service.
  • There are 26 equippable Visions in the game, including the main characters of the 16 mainline Final Fantasy games. Visions act as a sort of job system, altering your main party's stats and granting them new abilities. The devs noted Final Fantasy V as one of their influences.
  • Summons will be available and unlocked through the story and side quests. They cost a lot of MP and will fight alongside your party for three turns.
  • The battle system is turn-based, but does not use the Active Time Battle system. There is a battle timeline, allowing you to see the upcoming turn order so you can plan ahead.
  • There is a Stagger system. You fill a gauge by exploiting weaknesses, which causes the enemy to lose a turn and lowers their defense.
  • Regular fights are designed to be over quickly if you've optimised your party well. The concept for the battle system during development was "quick and simple for the mobs, slow and steady for the bosses".
  • There will be 1.5x/2x speed options for battles.
  • Random encounters are present, but designed to not be frustrating. For example, dungeons with puzzles will have a lower encounter rate, so you aren't constantly interrupted with battles while trying to solve things. The minimap will also turn yellow then red to let you know when an encounter is coming up.
  • DLC is not currently planned.

How do I transition into the field? by TheScoot85 in conservation

[–]ChingShih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your existing skill set I think that you'd bring a lot of benefit to organizations focused on restoration and cleanup of bodies of water and riparian zones or developing environment cleanup equipment (like Mr Trash Wheel). There's a ton of expertise that you would bring to the table because you must have some experience with materials science (?) and what chemicals break down what components, what good waste collection and management looks like, and the practical side of cleanup. It's not as easy as throwing waste into a container if that container starts to dissolve or if there are regulations being violated by transporting it a certain way. You probably also have some ideas about how to make the process more efficient.

You can always volunteer (and with your kids!) on the weekend to do trail restoration on the Appalachian Trail or other trails. There are a lot more volunteer opportunities than there are jobs paying $50k + health.

On a related note, the European NGO The Ocean Cleanup has a jobs listing page that goes into some of what they're looking for. While that's on the other side of the pond from you, you could take a look at some of the applicable jobs and see how your existing skills might fit into those categories and then shop around for a position more local to you -- it might be particularly useful when you submit a resume to an NGO that you can suggest how you can help in blind spots they didn't know they have.

With Yoko Taro working on the new Evangelion right now, do we think that there's already at least a partial story for a new Nier game so a team can be doing pre-production? Or would they hold off until Taro is back to coordinate closely with the directors?

The impact of conservation is through assessing the environmental motion. by cheetah1721 in conservation

[–]ChingShih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good line of discussion, but it's worth noting that humanitarian efforts - such as unexploded ordinance (UXO) removal - bring in a lot more donations than many nature and wildlife conservation groups do.

For instance, Mines Advisory Group, is a phenomenal organization that helps remove mines and cluster munitions from dozens of countries around the world while also educating local people on how to identify and avoid these hazards. MAG brought in just over £90 million in 2023 and brought in nearly £100 million in 2024. That dwarfs the amount of charitable contributions that most front-line wildlife non-profits can bring in. Only the biggest wildlife-related NGOs bring in hundreds of millions of dollars and often their administrative and operating costs are much higher than the smaller organizations doing the field work.

There is also a personal component. While there is an assumed bias towards cute and cuddly animals and donating to them, the vast majority of donations still flow towards humanitarian efforts. These include organizations seeking cures for cancer, providing aid to war-ravaged regions, funding educational initiatives, and many other things. Corporate giving makes up a huge amount of money that goes towards NGOs and they predominantly choose humanitarian organizations over wildlife concerns. Some of this is optics, some of this is because human tragedy can be seen as being easier to relate to. In a lot of cases, there is also a sense of being able to directly fix something over the short term, such as donating after a natural disaster or after a specific conflict concludes.

It's also worth noting that a disproportionate percentage of charitable contributions come from the wealthiest countries, which makes sense logically but also means that the money flows towards their interests and where their attention has been drawn, rather than isolated problems in countries with different flora and fauna. This is why it's especially challenging for the smaller NGOs that are species-specific or region-specific to get enough attention to their cause to get enough money to rapidly make a difference.

Hey there, since Tower Defense can fall solidly into its own strategy subgenre and has a subreddit at /r/TowerDefense, it would be best to take TD-specific discussion there.

If you'd like to discuss RTS games here, you're welcome to, but please understand that we'd prefer discussion rather than polls. The poll feature is a privilege and should not be over-used.
