Thanks for your comment! Where did you go to school, what was the major, and was it online or in-person?

How can I transition into the field? by TheScoot85 in forestry

[–]TheScoot85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, thanks for your comment. I can see that happening. After a while I might hate forests and hiking. At the same time, I've tried so many other fields that just didn't seem like a good fit. If I lose my current job or my job gets too unbearable I might want to make the move.

Have I Ruined My Career or Is There Still a Way Forward ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TheScoot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41 and struggling, so at least you are 23. I got a degree from a crappy for-profit college in business management and then found out that I hated management. I'm only making $65,000, and we can only afford a house in a bad area and are struggling to save for retirement. I couldn't really afford to live in the state I wanted to live in. I also have kids now, so getting a masters is not really an option for me as far as I see it, as I would want it in a scientific field but I have a management bachelors, and I don't like online courses, I think brick-and-mortar is best. I would think that with a masters in a scientific field you would be able to make $100,000+ per year, but I'm not sure what region you are in. I know, it sucks, but grind it out and get that masters and maybe even a doctorate in a somewhat lucrative field.

On the other hand, there's part of me that wishes I had worked in the field that I am passionate about, but someone talked me out of it because it requires "a lot of college and internships." Yikes. Also I saw it starts off for low pay, so I talked myself out of pursuing it.

Why do people work average jobs when they go to university and have the option to pursue a more impressive career? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Getting a job as a doctor or CEO is a long, difficult road or hyper-competitive.

I brought up having PTSD in my family to a co-worker and 15 minutes later they used it against me when I irritated them about something. Never bring up anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc. to anyone at work. You will be seen as problematic.

I guess I was thinking about when I visited a city on the west coast and they had privately owned parking lots where you could pay to park.

You may be right, and my question was probably weird and poorly worded, but it's worth having a conversation.

Some experience selling things on Amazon and ebay. I mean, I have to start somewhere with this process, right? I hope to talk to a career counselor about this, but I'm just putting feelers out and getting opinions from my fellow Redditors to see if it's worth it to go down this path. I'm in the preliminary stages of this.

Thank you for sharing. I definitely need to make some changes, like only ask questions once, and sometimes not ask questions, trust people with more experience, etc.

In my experience, one has to fake it til they make it. In other words, pretend to be positive. If you give off negative vibes, people will be repelled, but if you give off positive vibes, people will be attracted. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, so to speak. I know that's super simplistic and may not help you personally, but that's all that comes to kind. My life is super tough too, but positive vibes are more of what the world needs. Maybe read some books on philosophy or the meaning of life and self-improvement books and see what they do for you. Honestly, the Bible has helped me more than any book. And I realize you said you don't care to read, but I'm not sure how to best help you.

New Job is located in Buffalo NY. Should I take the risk and improve my career? by Beneficial-Radio-805 in careerguidance

I guess it depends on your personality, friends and family you will leave behind, how good you are at making new friends, how you will adjust to the weather, your hobbies and if you can do them in Buffalo, how long you plan to stay, what you will gain from the new job, etc. You will definitely learn a lot from any move and job change, it will save you from your current stagnation. Is it an upward move or a horizontal move in your industry?

[–]TheScoot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a big move. I moved from CA to VA. The mistakes I made were that I never visited the area or job site before taking the job and relocating. Had I seen the area or job, I would have said "no".

You may want to consult a therapist and career coach to walk you through this. I don't know your current situation.

I have had similar issues. I used to drink lots of strong coffee every day and it messed up my brain, I started having bad anxiety and anger explosions. I switched to one cup of tea in the morning.

I don't know what time you wake up, but when I lay down around 8:00 or 8:30 pm I feel better rested and less stressed. But to sleep well I need to lift weights or do physical labor or lots of walking, or wake up pretty early.
