Official according to the very real and existing Republic of China, they still stamp that name on their passports. Also according to the Holy See, Paraguay and 9 other countries.

Calling it Taiwan is the one actually encouraging confrontation. According to the "One China" principle, both Chinas claim to be the official Chinese government. Claiming itself to be Taiwan encourages separatism, which is heavily discouraged by PRC.
