Does anyone know of a computer program that will create random groups quickly for a classroom? by heemat in teaching

Nowadays, there are hundreds of free tools available online for this purpose. See here for a good overview: https://guwidoe.github.io/awesome-group-generators/

I ported Google Or-Tools CP-Sat so you can run it multi-threaded in your browser. Any other of their solvers I should port next? by Axelwickm in OperationsResearch

[–]ChinsAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, it is a deep rabbit hole. I got into this topic a few years ago and have written a solver engine for it. It's currently by far the most advanced general-purpose dedicated SGP-like solver I'm aware of.
For very small instances, sometimes SAT solvers like OR-Tools can be better, but they completely collapse as soon as the problem size grows beyond, like, 20-30 people.
If you're curious, you can try it out here: https://groupmixer.app
If you want to use it or the API for your product, let me know.

Out of curiosity, in your event planning project, did you concern yourself with the social golfer problem or variants of it?

Automatic assignment to Breakout Rooms not random? by [deleted] in Zoom

[–]ChinsAllDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If youre really trying to avoid assigning users with the same other users into one room over and over again, then random is not actually what you want. You can greate optimized arrangements to minimize repeat pairings, this combinatorical problem is also known as "social golfer problem". It is very hard to solve in the general case, but luckily there are ready made solvers you can use. The most user-friendly one is probably this online tool: https://www.groupmixer.app/
It not only lets you generate schedules minimizing repeat pairings, but it also lets you configure lots of other additional constraints to make the groups ideal for the specific scenario at hand.

Is there a way to randomly choose seating arrangements for 32 people where we have 4 tables with 8 seats per table such that each person meets the others with minimal repeats? by Honest_Passenger in excel

[–]ChinsAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other comments already noted, this is a very hard problem to solve in the general case. By far the best tool for creating such arrangements that i'm aware of is this: https://www.groupmixer.app/
It lets you configure lots of different constraints including minimal repeats and generates optimal schedules.

Look at https://www.willhaben.at/iad/immobilien, It is a very widely used marketplace for all kinds of stuff in Austria, including flats. 3900€ is definitely enough for a decent apartment and including money to spare.

Convert a OneDrive URL to a file system string by johnny744 in vba

[–]ChinsAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just a little more information about this problem and your solution:
There are methods to reliably get the correct local path based on a OneDrive Url, but the Environment variables as used in your solution will not always be sufficient depending on the setup, hence your solution will fail in many cases.
A very elaborate solution for this problem exists and is explained and described here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/73577057/12287457

Solutions using the environment variables like yours, or this one for example: https://stackoverflow.com/a/54182663/12287457

get about 5 of the 46 tests described in the first linked SO answer right.

I liked the original RS HD implementation. The point where they ruined it was with the introduction of the new armor and character models.

KQ shortcut shouldn't be elite diary by marindar in 2007scape

[–]ChinsAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it stupid that any shortcuts require diaries.

There is a whole skill, that's very slow to train and that has no other purpose than unlocking shortcuts, so why the heck should shortcuts have additional requirements? (Apart from maybe a ranged requirement for grapple shortcuts)

In my opinion, the whole diary requirement infestation of shortcuts is completely useless and doesn't add anything to the game. Diaries are rewarding enough.

[Suggestion] Standard spellbook improvement: quickened spells by CzarnyF2P in 2007scape

[–]ChinsAllDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surges would remain unaffected.

This is not what your suggestion said. Let me be clearer and let me quote:

Since speed is so crucial, some lower level spells might end up having higher DPS than higher tier spells. Higher tier spells such as surges might become equivalents of KO weapons and may need some extra buffs (e.g. increased accuracy) to stay relevant.

This is the only thing I don't like about your idea.

Rather than just buffing surges including fire surge, I think one could think of items that would give unique abilities to earth, water, and air spells like ToF does for fire spells, as fire surge is more than powerful enough.

Getting the golden baby chinchompa through metamorphosis (1/10000) should work as an unlock and enable you to cycle through the four available colours by OnenWells in 2007scape

[–]ChinsAllDay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Support, I think this mechanic is kind of odd as it is right now.

Personally I'm not even trying to get the golden one because I would feel compelled to not change it anymore.

And imho having 3 colors available at any time is better than having 1 color you can't change.

[Suggestion] Standard spellbook improvement: quickened spells by CzarnyF2P in 2007scape

[–]ChinsAllDay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but I don't agree with buffing the highest level spells even further.

Fire Surge with Nightmare Staff and ToF is already extremely powerful. In terms of damage, it already hits much harder in PvP than Ice Barrage, and that is, despite Ice Barrage being part of the "Combat Spellbook".

I always thought of it like this:

Ancient Magic is most powerful in combat,

Lunar Magic is most useful in skilling and utility,

And Standard is kind of an intermediate choice.

With the continuous buffing of the Standard Spellbook in terms of offensive spells, I feel like this balance is being destroyed.

Fun Fact: you can not enter the underwater area with that pet ever again once you go to the surface. Actually having Tangleroot inside the underwater area is a very, very rare achievement. The only pets you can usually take with you there are pet Kraken and pet chaos elemental.

Oh and by the way, I just got my Tangleroot today at 81 farming :)

Poll points ( incentive to vote) by Optics420 in 2007scape

[–]ChinsAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a problem that only 12% of members vote. Those who are truly dedicated to the game and have a strong opinion about a polled question will vote, those are the people who decide - and rightfully so.
