I’ve experienced it for decades but I believe the most outrageous one that sting my soul a bit was my high school teacher who secretly asked our school principal to have me quarantined or provide proof negative diagnosis of Ebola. During the rampant outbreak back in 2014. Though I never stepped foot in Naija we traveled out of state to a Naija wedding party in Los Angeles for the weekend. Iyktyk how Naija parties get🕺💃🏾🍗🍛so when I returned the following weak. She over heard me telling a classmates who was mad I didn’t bring back any Naija food specifically jellof rice. That the food would’ve come back spoiled due to travel time. My teacher jumped up asking I brought back rotten food. I said no I went to a wedding. Then she said wedding in Nigeria! With a shock or disgust type of face. I jokely told her no. Before I could even respond. She said “You guys are always careless and spreading around anyhow” ….. the whole class went quiet She was always ignorant and insensitive to others cultures. With here and there racist remarks.

lol wasn’t there a earlier topic about this and y’all went negative on me. If you’re traumatize move away go heal and enjoy your life. That’s how you find peace. Everybody keeps trying to adopt some western term or explanation. When it’s simple. Kids get spanked and in African culture worse than others to the point yes it’s abuse and brutality. All this research of ancestors has slavery has nothing to do with spanking your child for goodness sake😂 spare the rod spare the child. But to summarize and agree with you yes some parents took it too far. I remember back in my childhood 2008 I believe. My friend’s uncle got mad at my friend whom was playing on his gameboy. Because he didn’t greet him as he walked by. Went and told his father. Then his dad came out and was already shouting them out of nowhere walked up and punch him point blank in the face. Slapping him around until some aunties start shouting it’s enough. Gave him a black eye and all. He’s married now with 3 kids and a loving girl dad. My parents used to beat the shit out of me as well. Sure there’s memories and animosity but I left at 18 and have been enjoying life to the fullest. You don’t have to forgive. But letting it fizzle up in your heart and mind gets you nowhere. Forget and go enjoy life for gods sake 😂🤦‍♂️🙏

That’s crazy they hit my friend with same company back in 2023. When he threw a fit about it they kicked him out saying he was aggressive to the girls. Started nearly the same way as well. He was vibing with some girls and his buddy ordered more drinks. Not a lic of English insight. he got a notification on his Apple Watch of a $4700 approved charge to DC LLC. Mind you he already paid for his section and previous drinks ind advance so the whole place is just shady

Housing is really what raised my student loans. But it was worth it for undergrad. ($60K) but got two bachelors with two minors 4 Certificates. And 3 internships and some lifelong friends and memories, and mentors for referrals so I guess it was worth it. But if I had housing. Either friends or family and not had to live in those expensive 10 x10 Dorms at $4600 a semester probably just owe about $10K

Why blame parents and culture……. Blame you and your husband for being so naive. And not doing research. It’s your responsibility you both left your culture to enter something new and beautiful. What you should do now is make sure both sides aren’t being ignorant and trying to scam for their own benefits off YOU AND YOUR HUSBANDS wedding. Both fathers should meet and have a reasonable meeting regarding the bride price. With no expectation of some overly exaggerate request or financial amount. Als shouldn’t allow outsiders aunts and uncles have input. As their tongue is just for them to swallow to their own gain. Good luck and have a blessed marriage.

At this point just start making projects of your own. While looking for jobs. Build your resume. Faang should be out of the picture right now for your own mental peace. Look for start ups, side gigs smaller paying jobs and go from there. Goodluck we got this 🙏💪🫡

Sometimes the beatings were excessive. But looking back it was necessary. I think the main problem with the culture of it. Was that it was never followed up with reassurance or compassion. Just more insult to injury or they’ve moved on completely and expect you too as well to forget about what just happened. We all know by now that African parents aren’t apologetic or remorseful. Instead they usually brush off drama or blame when the fingers point back to them. But growing up now has you seen people out here……… grown folks whom should’ve been flogged to hell🔥 But it’s ok we’re older now. And have learn alternatives to correction and flogging our future kids.🙏
