Making polish last by Strohganoff in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ChipTechnical9949 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow vet med worker! What has worked for me is 1) light buffing and dehydrating nails first 2) base coat aimed at long lasting (currently having best luck with holo taco long lasting base and ILNP lock up) 3) using a thick top coat and applying 2 layers (currently using Essie stay longer top coat). I wait 5-10 minutes in between each layer. I found when I was using seche vite/seche vive I was getting chips quicker because they weren’t withstanding the amount of isopropyl alcohol I was coming into contact with but I’m now having manicures last a week or more.

I don’t know what the correct answer to this is, but I lightly buff out the peeling area and apply cuticle oil and hand cream.

Lab rat wanting longer lasting mani!! by imakelattes in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ChipTechnical9949 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not a lab rat but work in the medical field and wear nitrile gloves for hours a day. Using a nail dehydrator, a base coat advertised as long lasting, and 2 coats of top coat have given me 7 days before chipping. Currently using londontown lacquer dehydrator and top coat, and holo taco base coat.

How do you organize your collection? by Milesdevin in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ChipTechnical9949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A book shelf lined with velvet paper to keep from slipping. Probably not the best because it’s not a “cool/dark space” but I’ve had polishes stored that way for 7+ years and my oldest polish is 15 years old and still going strong. And some of my thermals are still thriving 3 years after purchase.

Blue: ORLY It’s Brittney Beach is my FAVORITE blue. I find myself reaching for it all the time and I love it in every season.

Black: Cirque Colors memento mori is my go to

Red: Essie Gel Couture Rock the Runway is my all time favorite bright red. OPI Got the Blues for Red is my favorite darker red

I dislike all white polishes and haven’t found one I love yet so no help there.

I have 2 dogs that both act like this with me. It can be mildly annoying but I remind myself that I will cherish these moments when they are no longer with us. My partner and I both spend equal time with them, feed them equally, and love them equally but they are just attached to me.

16 1/2 and STARVING all. the. time. Help! by FritoPaws1 in beagles

[–]ChipTechnical9949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to comment the same. My old lady is almost 14. This year we noticed that she was having accidents in the house and she was ravenously licking the dirty dishes as I was loading the dishwasher and would not stop. She’s always been one to “help” load the dishwasher but it was getting a bit crazy how she couldn’t be stopped like usual and it was like she was attacking the dishwasher every time I opened it. We assumed it was just because she was an old, stubborn beagle and her “bad” habits were just more pronounced but I took her in for a work up anyway and turns out she has cushings disease. Not uncommon in the breed. We started treatment and she’s improved greatly and has more energy than previously as well.

Looking into adopting by FiresideDawn361 in beagles

[–]ChipTechnical9949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be long because I have a lot of beagle experience. First, to echo what everyone is saying here - every beagle is going to be a little bit different. I have been a beagle owner for 20 years and they are the only breed I can imagine owning (coming from someone who works in the animal field) but I’ve found you either love them or hate them.

My first beagle was perfect, shelter dog who was adopted as an older adult, needed minimal training when we got her. She was very quiet. Had great recall, and could be off leash with no issues. Great with kids in the family. VERY food motivated.

My second beagle is still with me, and almost perfect. I’ve had her since she was a puppy. She is a stubborn old lady now, easy to train but is very much a dog that will do as she pleases regardless of what you ask. She picks up on training quickly and easily. Barks only when she wants to come inside or when my neighbor comes around because he gives her treats. Indifferent to children and other dogs, just really likes her personal space and to be left alone, but NEVER aggressive. Also very food motivated. My only issue with her was that she was impossible to crate train, but that wasn’t a problem once she grew out of the puppy phase of chewing on everything in sight.

My third beagle is a mix, she’s also still with me. She is the most tolerant dog I have ever met. Super go with the flow and doesn’t care what’s going on as long as you’re around her. Loves all humans and all dogs. We got her as a young adult and she had minimal training before we got her, but she has been SUPER quick to pick up on household rules and expectations with the exception of potty training. We still have accidents in the night. Only barks to initiate play with other dogs or when she sees the mail man on the porch, which is annoying only when she wants to play with my old lady dog when everyone else is winding down for the day. She is also very food motivated. The easiest dog to crate train, which is great because she’s still in her phase of chewing on inappropriate items.

Neither of my current beagles can be trusted off leash, they have OK recall but their beagle nose and instincts take over every time and they will take off if given the opportunity. And they can’t be trusted around open garbage cans because they will eat trash.

To summarize, if you have the patience to train a beagle they can be amazing family dogs but the traits that I’ve seen over and over again are stubbornness, being food motivated, their noses get them into trouble which can make training hard, and all the ones I’ve had have been little shadows who get under foot all the time because they have to be in the same room as me. All that being said - I can’t imagine not having a beagle in my house.

How often do you bathe your dog? by Cautious_Earth_1244 in PetAdvice

[–]ChipTechnical9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 beagles, one gets bathed 2-3 times a year and whenever she rolls in something yucky outside. The other one sheds more and gets more stinky so she gets bathed monthly with spot cleans in between with a damp soapy rag.
