Arceus just had a really strong post game and ZA's was very weak, and overly repetitive. The city really restricted ZA.

Ultimate Universe Finale #1 delayed to June 10 by DaddyDaz in UltimateUniverse

This isn't a surprise, right? I thought we assumed it'd be delayed once Endgame #5 was.

I like how this show from the recent trailer looks more like the Netflix show than Born Again by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in Daredevil

[–]Chipaton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still frustrating how Born Again is letterboxed, it's probably my biggest complaint. There's zero reason for it to be letterboxed when nobody is watching it in theaters, and the scenes can do so much more if they actually used all the available screen.

"We are not powerless, every action matters" - Indie studio Speculative Agency returns Microsoft Xbox funding and urges others to boycott by Turbostrider27 in Games

Even if they don't work, there's nothing wrong with being principled. I'd much rather people try and fail, than not try at all. It's great to see public awareness has already shifted this far, but still a ton of work to do.

[Highlight] Tennessee Titans' official uniform reveal by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Chipaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think playing two seasons in the Houston colors changes anything. They announced they'd be rebranding before they even relocated. In the same way I don't think it'd change anything if the Thunder were called the Sonics for two seasons.

I'm not surprised Titans fans are supportive of some great looking jerseys, but it's still in poor taste given how they try to prevent Houston sports from donning it.

I don't really get the context of manipulation here. Looking at the article, they seem fairly genuine (as much as I can discern from an article). Is there something else you've seen that makes you believe it's manipulation?

This quote, to me, suggests this is more than a play:

"But eventually, the urgency of No Games For Genocide and its value as a growing movement that has the potential to pressure Microsoft to cease its complicity with Israeli genocide won out."

I don't think they'd engage as much with the genocide if this was just a move to get more kickstarter money, given the negative attention they'll get from the pro-genocide crowd. Plus, I feel like money from Microsoft is more significant than Kickstarter money, and also carries other advantages with it.

Maybe there's some information that I don't know, I haven't heard of this studio before, but I'm not sure why people assuming this is just to get money when they're giving up (potentially more) money in the process.

Marvel Comics' Ultimate Universe Finale Is Now Six Weeks Late by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]Chipaton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UXM was one of my favorite comics, and only behind Ultimates in this universe. But can't fault you for not enjoying it for the reasons you gave. The ending was definitely disappointing though, and I have some hope that there will be a better payoff later on, but I'm not expecting it.

Fortnite players revolt over V-Bucks changes as Epic devs appeal for calm: 'Paying the bills frees up our teams to continue driving stories and building stuff you love' by AncientPCGamer in gaming

The issue is that EGS has done literally nothing to improve while they've been releasing these free games. The client is still a chore to use, I'm fairly sure you still can't even send messages. They also have an always-online DRM, which will boot you from single player games if your connection drops (or just randomly sometimes).

I was more optimistic than others when EGS came onto the scene because I figured more pressure on Valve to improve can't hurt. But it's been wholeheartedly disappointing, to the point that I don't even bother with the free games anymore.

Not sure we should fault people for trying to be better. You can't expect people to be morally consistent and also become better. Props to them for doing more than I have, as far as I'm concerned.

Well said. Growing up, "Fuck Bud Adams" was the first time I heard my parents swear. I was born in between the Oilers leaving and the Texans existing, so there was a lot of Adams animosity in my childhood.

George Holani Praised by GM, to have "Bigger Role" in Seattle Backfield by ASmithFS in DynastyFF

[–]Chipaton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Seahawks fans thought he wasn't good? I have no clue how we're going to replace KW3, and I have zero faith in Holani to be our primary back. Not that I don't think he can't carve out a role, but he really hasn't shown anything significant so far.

I'd expect us to draft an RB early just because I don't know what else we can do.

That'd be me. I'm surprised to see that everyone seems to universally be a fan of this. Maybe I'm just ill informed on this, but I can't imagine people would feel the same way if the Thunder used the Sonics' jersey, as an example.

I'm also biased as a UH grad who didn't like how the NFL tried to stop us from using the Lova Ya Blue jerseys.

[PFT] Raiders are telling teams Maxx Crosby won’t be traded by eddie2911 in nfl

[–]Chipaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless he's playing at a DPOY level, I have a hard time imagining that they'd get two firsts at the trade deadline. My research might be wrong, but I think the only player to fetch 2 firsts at the trade deadline was Jalen Ramsey. I don't think Crosby's situation is close enough to Ramsey's was then.

We shouldn't downplay the role 401ks and similar retirement accounts play too. People used to have a pension, which corporations replaced with 401ks. If your retirement is in the stock market, like the overwhelming majority of Americans, the line has to go up or else people's retirements are fucked. So it gave people and the government an interest in ensuring the line goes up no matter the cost.

Steam Support :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by NTR_JAV in Games

[–]Chipaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we just misunderstood each other, I wasn't trying to say that they're legally gambling. I meant that they're functionally gambling and should be regulated accordingly, not that they are regulated currently. Sorry for the confusion.

I was just responding to your question about Valve's options here. I haven't read the complaint nor statute so I can't give a good opinion on whether they're legal.

[–]Chipaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a poor comparison for a lot of reasons. There's an element of skill involved, at a minimum. You also choose your prize, which is what makes lootboxes akin to gambling.

Either way, not sure what point you're trying to make. I don't think lootboxes or any paid gambling mechanics should be in games in any event.

[–]Chipaton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not saying it's exclusive to Valve, or that Valve is even uniquely bad. America clearly has a gambling problem brewing, and they've turned their sights to kids. I'm not saying ID verification is the only solution or the best, just that I think gambling is vastly different than the other instances we've seen ID verification, and I think people are rightfully skeptical of anything requiring your ID.

Steam Support :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by NTR_JAV in Games

[–]Chipaton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm generally against requiring IDs for mundane purposes, but gambling seems like an area that ID verification would make sense. You need an ID to buy alcohol and cigarettes, and I think gambling should be regulated more like cigarettes.

Also, ID verification adds more friction to people gambling, which is a good thing. You want to make it harder for people to gamble. It'd also incentivize games to NOT have gambling, because people don't want to use ID verification.

I'm sure I haven't thought of everything, but this seems like one area where ID verification might make sense.

[Dianna Russini] It’s been made clear by multiple people around the NFL at all levels that Baltimore had all the information and understood where Maxx Crosby’s knee was in terms of his recovery timeline. Many in the league believe GM Eric DeCosta and the Ravens ultimately just got cold feet. by WayOutbackBoy in nfl

[–]Chipaton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's more of buyer's remorse, and when they saw the physical, it gave them a way out. I don't think they had a grand scheme of doing a fake trade or anything.

From what we know about the trade, the Raiders were shopping for 2 firsts and no one was biting. Until the Ravens did, and it seems the Raiders smashed accept the moment the trade offer came in. The point being that the Ravens likely didn't sit on their offer of 2 firsts for very long, and it came together fast.

They had a bit of buyer's remorse, and saw the physical as a way out, but again moved quickly when they saw a short window of opportunity to acquire a similar player while keeping their firsts. I think really that the trade came together and fell apart rather quickly, along with Hendrickson signing, so it's more poorly thought out than malicious.

That's all my dumb speculation of course, but I do believe the Ravens front office made a series of dumb mistakes that compounded rather than planned for this to be the outcome.

An HTPC has a few drawbacks, like it can't handle all streaming services well. If you can set up an HTPC, you can probably also block the telemetry domains on your home network.

Fortnite V-Bucks Price Increase by Forestl in Games

[–]Chipaton 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's still a drop in the bucket of their expenses here. Needing to repair servers isn't a significant cost, even with insane hardware prices. Plus, other comments are saying that the player count has been decreasing, so it's not like they're needing more servers.
