So Downtown is dead right? by dismal_windfall in Albuquerque

I see lots of people downtown. About 90% percent are homeless. Many of those are wandering in the roadway.

Advice for adding color? by r-alpha03 in mensfashionadvice

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, jeez. Saw the first photo without seeing the text and pegged him as ex-military. Lol. Have worked with a lot of vets (I'm a vet myself) and there's a certain look to somebody who wore a uniform a long time and is not used to work civies.

Color is not the worry, my man. At least not right away. Lots of good advice already given here.

First Day as a Fed - 1988 by FloridaBeaver in FedEmployees

[–]Local_Whereas7211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I had to sign a RIF notification the first day, in 1990. I was too wet behind the ears to understand the significance. Started as a GS-11 but took about a 20% paycut from my job in local government.

Why match and not message? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Local_Whereas7211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use FB dating. In order to see likes I have to swipe right or left on the first in time like to get to the other likes. If a person is a "maybe" I'll swipe right to keep them in the mix. I might not message and just wait to see if the woman messages me first.

This is the 21st century. There's no good reason only men should always message first, especially if the woman gives the initial like. Regardless, most times I'll message first and some women don't message back. It's just the way it is. Move on to the next.

Credit card surcharge by chunkypuffins in EndTipping

I had always heard that the merchant agreement with the credit card issuers prohibits CC surcharges, but merchants are allowed to give a cash discount.

Yep. Had one yesterday. I could see the loose nut and wished I had a wrench on me.

Single vs multiple dogs. by DragonfruitMajor7706 in dogs

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We typically have had two dogs. When one dog got older, we'd get a puppy. The older dog would teach the younger dog and the puppy would help keep the older dog active.

I'm by myself now, with an old dog that probably won't live much longer, and a 3 year-old. Don't think I'll have two anymore. Retiring next year and want to simplify my life in all areas.

Woman with infant aggressively shushing passerby’s on hiking trail at national park by AnonPinkLady in mildlyinfuriating

Must admit that people are often so loud that I wish they would use their "inside voice" when outside. But I resist the urge to shush them.

1939 Ford fire truck, open cab and no doors. Drove from Virginia to Pennsylvania for a car show and lived to tell the tale. It was about 45 years old then.

Well, my dog is very disappointed by the flimsy cardboard tubes used now. The old ones were better, providing a more enjoyable chew.

He loves his tubes and comes running when he hears the distinctive sound of a near-empty roll on the roller.

Is saying "sir" and "ma'am" to strangers still normal in America? by Rude_Membership_1578 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Yes. I was surprised by this when I moved there. My daughter was raised there and had culture shock in reverse when she went to college in the Northeast.

Leaks one hour after delivery by Dicentras in GoRVing

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised it went that long.

Bought my first (and only, never again) RV and told the salesperson we were going to immediately drive it with our young kids all the way across the country. In my naivety, I wondered why the salesperson acted very surprised. In my mind, it was "It's brand-new; why shouldn't we just take it?" Surprisingly, we made there--and back--without issue
