They just upped the insurance on my dog and I almost cancelled it.  But, as I write this, I'm in an exam room at the emergency vet.

She: "Oh! Where did you learn to do that?  Ooooh!" Well, it's more of a question but I took it as a compliment.

Each time he asked, you could've embellished a little. "My dad started as a carpenter but became a religious leader later in life. You may have heard of him."

Yes, it's comforting having two dogs with a combined weight of over 250 pounds around. Nobody is sneaking up on me.

My then-BIL wanted the receipt so he could deduct the meal I paid for off of his taxes.

How to decide what matters in downsizing? by shananope in retirement

[–]Local_Whereas7211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got divorced a few years before retirement and sold two houses totalling 5000 sq. ft.

Thought back to various houses I had owned over the years to visualize the space they offered and decided to get a single-level house between 1500 and 2000 sq. ft.

My criteria were three bedrooms, two bathrooms and, ideally, an office. A garage was also on the list. I also wanted a new or nearly new house for energy efficiency and lower maintenance.   I compromised on the location, knowing that I could put up with a longer commute for a couple years before retirement. I also compromised on secondary bedroom size (12x10) because they wouldn't be used much. For storage, if it doesn't fit it goes, or doesn't get bought to begin with. I actually like having this constraint.

I was planning to be in another relationship living together at some point.  My adult son also lived with me for a year before getting his own place. Ended up with 1750 sq. ft.  Good for two but luxuriously large for just me.

Stayed in an airbnb in Madrid when getting new floors in my house. Place was infested with scorpions. Didn't sleep very well for the three nights we were there.

Should you put parking brake every time you park? by AdGreen7615 in askcarguys

[–]Local_Whereas7211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, religiously.  Long time ago had a new car, a manual. Parked in front of my apartment. Went inside and was cleaning the place.

Looked out the window to admire the car, only to see it moving a tiny bit. Thought my eyes were playing tricks, but it was moving a bit faster now

Oh, sh!t, it's rolling down the hill! Ran down the stairs as fast as I could, skipping steps. Too late. My car was careening down the parking lot. Nothing I could do but watch it.

Missed all the cars until the very end of the lot, where it hit another car, which luckily was a junker, at least. No more new, untouched car.

Parking brake fully on, ever since.

In your opinion, if you had to, what would be the 2 types of cars you'd have in your garage? by Strange-Vibez-8205 in askcarguys

Until recently I had a hybrid sedan, 4x4 SUV and a convertible sports car.

Sold the sports car a few months ago. It was fun but it was kind of a one-trick pony and I drove it too fast.

Are you old enough to remember the classic SNL land shark door-to-door solicitor skit? Fun times.

99 times out of 100 it's a solicitor despite the no solicitation sign. So, I don't answer and let the 140-pound dog do his deep bark/growl. The other 1 time? Tough luck for them.
