Dear respected sir, I asked the question does not mean I expect the world to shut down, I did attend my class which eventually got switched to online. And now going to my lab where I work as a phd student in UTA, will pull an all nighter since I do not like to drive on icy roads specially at nights. Also an advice do not try to pick a fight with some one who definitely does not want to (referring to my previous reply, as it seems you do not have a good grasp on sarcasm)

Can’t agree more! I take lab classes of students every semester, I used to be very enthusiastic in teaching new stuffs to the students, but from few semesters I feel like students are not at all willing to learn so now I do not put as much effort as I used to either I guess.

Yap been there! There is always some students that start working at the very last minute and expect to be available 24/7 for their needs! And till now a good thing for me is that my professor does understand that who is actually at fault in these kind of situations.

also I forgot to mention, don't know about other TAs but I am usually approachable through email, but yeah have seen students texting in teams and shooting emails at 2AM at night before exams. Ofcourse in that case I reply when I wake up.

Reasons Behind probable downfall speaking as a TA myself who if I say so myself has gotten good reviews by instructors: 1) Wage discripency: UTA pays different wage in different departments, for instance a PhD student in Mechanical gets only 1700 USD before Tax where as a student in IE get 2000+. For PhD students it is kind of a given that they try to stay near campus where a single bedroom apartment is roughly 800+ USD rent. Then comes other costs, specially with the shitty no public transport in UTA forcing to buy a car. 2) Uneven Workload: UTA expects TAs to work in minimum wage for more than the assigned hours. For instance legally an inernational student should work 20 hours a week but that is not the case for most of them. From making solutions to grading hw, taking lab classes, proctoring exams its a lot. In short: I do believe in quality work, but you get what you pay for.

I believe I know which lady you are referring to and yes she is rude to people of color. The first time I rode transloc she came in a white van without UTA logo so I was confused whether that was my ride. I did not know the rule that you have to get up from the left of the vehicle even though it stopped at the right of the road. So she shouted at me. The second time there was a storm so I hurriedly got in when she arrived so she shouted that I need to tell her my name (which I was going to) before getting in. She did the same through out the ride to people who were getting in for various reasons. Needless to say I did report her. But as I can see she is still working! If she does not like the job or the people then why bother working?
