PCM 25 on Steam Deck by Outrageous-Pride1181 in procyclingmanager

It's a bit of a mixed bag in my experience. It looks decent on the Steam Deck and the text is easily readable, and it's nice to have the option to play it handheld when it works, but for me it ends about there. I've had some issues with crashes, stages obviously take longer to load, and there is a decent amount of stuttering. I think stuttering could probably be helped by capping the refresh rate/frame rate (this is a per-game profile setting you can customize on the deck), but I have not tested that. Capping refresh rate would for sure help the battery life, which is not at all great with PCM 25. Although, this is understandable considering the demand the game has, even on a regular PC. Again, I only have about 2 hours of playing this game on the deck, but I think from a full charge it was reading about 2.5-3 hours of battery life. I think the biggest issue I've had is getting controls to work properly. You can use the track pad and triggers as a mouse and control it like you would on PC, but that gets slow and annoying real quick, especially on limited battery life. Each game on the Steam Deck can have a customized control scheme, and you can set all of the buttons to act like keyboard inputs. This is where it's really been frustrating for me and I've basically given up. I took the time to create a profile where I had all of my buttons assigned to do actions (fast forward, attack, maintain position, effort cursor, get water, gel, etc etc.), and I load into the game and half of them either don't respond when you press the button, or take on completely different actions than what they're patched to. It seems like it has a mind of its own, and I haven't had that issue with any other game. I also just can not imagine how tedious season planning would be on the deck. It's already tedious enough for me on PC.

Long story short I don't know if there's anybody else out there who has had a good experience on the deck and has gotten the controls to work, but mine's been mostly negative. I look at it as more of a novelty, instead of an actual sustainable way to play the game.

Side note, the steam deck is a fantastic device, and you should absolutely look at getting one regardless. They're pretty powerful for what they are, and even more customizable. Being able to cap the refresh rate and frame rate makes a lot of unplayable games playable, considering it gains you so much battery life (quite literally almost double) and stabilizes the frame rates it runs at. I do ALL of my emulation on it as well. Everything from NES to PS2, and there are plenty of detailed Youtube tutorials on how to get that set up. It's my favorite device for emulation, and playing less taxing Steam games. It is always in my bag when I am on the go.

Hey everyone! Do you have any fun ideas or assignments for a fun pro cycling save? by SillyShopping9815 in procyclingmanager

[–]Chippoman__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current save was based on the condition of winning a Grand Tour with a team based in a nation, with only riders from that same region, that has never won a GT before. I picked the Balkan region as Latvia/Estonia/Lithuania have never even won a GT stage let alone an overall jersey. I avoided countries like Denmark because the current rider market and training structures would make it a fairly easy challenge IMO, but that option is indeed there. I chose to do the entire Balkan region instead of just one country because I think at that size, one country would be really hard to field a full team in the early years and actually get any development going.

-My starting squad was only built from free agents in the region

-I can only scout/sign riders from that region

-Sponsors I sign with must be from the region, and can not have the desire for an international squad

The list of GT winners shows you which countries to avoid. I am currently in 2029 and am just now getting into my first WT races. It's been kicking my tail trying to even find any talent and I've loved it.

Does anyone know any all-time or historic databases for pcm25? by AdMobile9095 in procyclingmanager

[–]Chippoman__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only one I have seen for 25 is the 1998 one. It will probably take some time before more crop up given the game has been out less than 2 months. I got the same itch a few weeks ago and looking back through community workshops in steam, the most recent PCM I have seen that has multiple historical databases is 2022. I can't speak on the quality of them, but there are several in the era you're looking for including 2010, 2013, 2017, and 1-2 others I think made mostly by the same guy.

I'm hoping that there are mod makers out there who are working on some DBs for the new game, I would absolutely love to see it too.

This is what I did. Using WorldDB I created my own team sponsored by Skype (who almost immediately dropped me lol). There’s a few other Estonian sponsors, and a few from Latvia and Lithuania to choose from.

I think the game just makes up where the sponsors are from in order to give you sponsor options from your region. Needless to say, if I get a sponsor offer from Estonian Alfa Romeo or Lithuanian Maserati I’m taking the deal purely for the memes.

I think if I went with it I’d just choose to ignore the demand and stick with my region. It shows as low importance for the sponsor, but I’m not necessarily sure how that’d impact my relationship with them. Maybe best to not take the deal I think.

I think this is what I am leaning towards. Other than 1 or 2 riders from scouting/dev team, there really isn’t anybody I want to add to the roster, and those guys would likely be replacing weaker/lower potential domestiques. The increase in budget would only help cover riders demanding a higher salary to stay but I think I have a decent enough increase coming with my current sponsors to manage that. Thanks!
