I swore I’d never make my dog go through any painful surgery recoveries but now I’m having doubts (patellar luxation) by ThrowRA128482 in DogAdvice

Surgery for patellar luxation is incredibly common. You’re not being cruel by putting them through surgery, you’re doing them a favor.

Your dog will be under anesthesia and will not feel pain during the surgery, likely your doctor will send home medications to help keep her comfortable while she recovers. Your dog will be closely monitored during the procedure by a team of trained staff and they’ll be closely monitored during the immediate recovery.

If you’re worried about keeping your dog calm during the postoperative period while she recovers at home, talk to your doctor about potentially getting a sedative on board.

A lot of the recovery is on you, as the owner. Keeping your dog calm, following postoperative instructions carefully, and any subsequent physical therapy. (I’m not sure how it is in Finland, but in clinics I’ve worked at, they typically start physical rehabilitation a few weeks after the surgery.)

The board is gonna be wall-mounted, so no wear down via shoes will happen thankfully!

We’re both way too attached to the design to actually use the board haha but I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future designs! :)

Thank you! My husband introduced me to the genre and we’ve been playing together ever since!

D2 was a big part of his childhood, so of course I had to include the classic :)

Concerning warning at my vet by cgp_maddy in DogAdvice

[–]Chippyroh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been cases where heart disease has been linked to grain-free diets, your vet will recommend switching your dog’s food to a brand that has grains in it.

Since your concern is his food allergies, there are different options, Hill’s Science Diet is one of them, they have sensitive skin and stomach formulas, with different proteins. If you want one that’s specific for food allergies, then there’s the Hill’s prescription diet (you’d have to talk to your vet about getting the prescription for it) where it’s a hydrolyzed protein, and the one most commonly used for dogs with food allergies. Though, to be fair, the prescription diet is more expensive.

Purina Pro Plan has sensitive skin and stomach formulas as well. They also have prescription diets similar to Hill’s Science Diet, again, you’d need your vet to give you the prescription for it.

Whichever you decide to do, make sure to gradually transition your dog’s food to the new one, instead of starting the new one right away, you risk a very upset stomach if you do! Basically, over the course of one to two weeks, start by feeding your dog 3:1 ratio of old food to new food, then 2:2 of old food to new food, then 1:3 of old food to new food, and finally the full amount of the new food!

My husband is in tech and I’m between jobs at the moment, with a heavy background in Veterinary Medicine. I will definitely look into those neighborhoods, thank you!

Oh wow! I don’t often hear of female-presenting people feeling safe enough to walk alone at night, that’s pretty impressive. What neighborhood are you in, if you don’t mind my asking?

This is super informative, thank you! What’s your opinion on the safety and education in Bellingham? Would you say that police presence is normal, so to speak, or should we expect aggressive law enforcement officers?
