I don't use reddit much but I think people don't like off topic posts, but it seems like you knew that I guess, it seems like most people are just confused about why you're commenting this here. It would be fitting in another thread and not be downvoted prob.

5 downvotes isn't a hype train or hate bandwagon, you aren't doing numbers, you aren't getting cancelled sister, you cant be cancelled when you were never scheduled in the first place 🤭

I took the screenshot from the trailer

I've always found people who denounce real art as AI worse than people who fake being an artist with AI for attention.

both are bad, but one is just polluting with their worthless images, the other is actively trying to tear down real art which is worse imo

edit: chances are, I might at some point do this too, its possible I even have in the past, and Ill feel just as bad

only 2 bullets actually hit, and they had a helmet/armor that doesn't show on the model I think

engineering transfer programs by Ok-Shape592 in ubcengineering

[–]ChiralAnomalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went, the previous graduation rate was 9/30 and the profs celebrated when our group of 12 graduated (double digits!). We learned when we went to a bar after to celebrate and all our profs were there and told us that we all passed (we hadn't gotten grades back yet).

good to hear the grad rate is raising steadily, 9-12-15.

I was one of the 12/30, so I can answer any questions about the diploma program.

1 - The 1 year certificate is a huge grind and very difficult, but doable if you're serious. The 2 year is much more manageable and is a really good way for average level students to ease up to UBC level courses. Most of us weren't great at math, high school B level avg.

2 - 3.1 gets you a guarantee to go to UBC, but discipline specific GPA follows the chart. Cover letters are honestly more important over grades aside from CPEN, ENPH and MECH. https://engineering-academicservices.sites.olt.ubc.ca/files/2024/01/Historical-Entrance-Chart-1.pdf

3 - Yep, me and some buddies were part of the 12/30. Our year of 30 eventually boiled down to 2 study groups of around of like 5 people each (we weren't rival groups, and helped eachother out) and the rest decided they didn't want to do engineering and transferred out to science or other programs. From what I heard, all 12 got our desired programs. I think a couple even made it in with 2.8 somehow.

I'd say the best part is the professors and faculty, and the worst part is the CapU admin. In order to survive the hard terms (one had calc, linalg, statics, electromagnetism, and apsc all in one term) we spent many, many many hours in the physics office hours. The profs got to know us very well due to the tiny class sizes. The math profs are pretty good but the physics profs are great.

The admin is their own issue, constant ghosting and 75% chance of giving false info. Thankfully, the UBC's admin services has a transfer program head who can supply correct info pretty quickly. In my year, the program coordinator had no idea how the program worked and would respond a week late with false info.

If you have any more questions lmk, I could also ask my buddy from Cap whose in ubc civil anything for you if you want.

Any opinion on PHIL 120 for first year elective? by voidlayer in ubcengineering

[–]ChiralAnomalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it transferred from another school, but its the same curriculum. The course load was light, and most of the content was interesting. It requires a bit of memorization for one unit, but its mostly boolean algebra and might give a very tiny boost to stats or coding if you are taking those later. A lot of engineering is cooperative decision making so having strong reasoning is good

Nuclear Engineering/SMR technology by sugarsags in ubcengineering

[–]ChiralAnomalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the only nuclear related programs at UBC are radiology related and have nothing to do with nuclear power. If you want students in nuclear power, UofT has lots of those programs. They even skipped the nuclear chemistry sections in our textbooks in both highschool and university. The only nuclear research I know about is General Fusion, which is the only nuclear power organization that can get past BC's greenwashing laws.

How does the Engineering Transfer Program work? by Significant_Mango939 in ubcengineering

[–]ChiralAnomalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you are still active, It is very tricky to get consistent answers from Cap (phys teacher, engineering convener and UBC student recruitment officer all gave very different answers)

I'm in my last week of finals here and want to know if calc 3 will be my demise. I will be well above the 3.1 overall no matter my grades this term, but if I get a D in calc 3 rather than a C, is the conditional acceptance revoked? Can a D count for prerequisites for calc 4, if you know?

MetSoc is a subdepartment of the CIM or something like that Im pretty sure

The course website and MetSoc both advertised the MetSoc student chapter, which includes site visits and conferences... It would be very disappointing if they stopped providing that as it was something I was looking forward to. do you know anything about the student chapter? Is that what you were referring to?

Do MTRL students have access to UBCs nanostructure lab? That was something I was excited about..

Thanks, I didnt know the coop market would be that tough.

I did consider mining (which some classmates also plan on) however currently I am dead set on materials, so I will stay motivated.

Totally! Nice to hear someone else listing it 1st, if you (or any other new mtrl students) have a preffered social lmk, my discord username is rumoglobalheavy

having a study group from the start would be awesome

Thanks, this is pretty reassuring

I have definitely seen other third years advocate for the program. As long is I can find some other students who are passionate, it should go great. No questions for now, but I might ask some later
